Haha, funny but informative post.
So I have no idea what or how to resurface. How would a fellar do dat? I'd love to test it on my older Lansky rods (about a year near daily use) that seem to have lost much of there sharpening ability even after thorough cleaning.
Hi,
Pretty much what
FortyTwoBlades said,
use abrasive that is harder than aluminum oxide,
use silicon carbide or diamonds,
use a grit that is coarser than the grit of the stones
( "ideally" only slightly coarser )
use lubrication (water or ..)
and just enough light passes
with just enough force
to scratch a new surface
ie make shiny reflective stone not shiny
and no more than that, very short as in secods
Lansky website says turnbox comes with
medium 600 grit grey rods, 2 fine 1000 grit
So, around ~$6 dollar can get you any one of these (some local some online)
-double sideded silicon carbide (carborundum) sharpening stone (ex ace hardware)
- two thin diamond grinding sharpening plate (light light lubricated force, 80-3000 grits, 400/1000...),
-SiC grit rubber rust eraser,
