Anyone tried using an extra fine ceramic sharpening stone as a platen for a belt grinder? Its the hardest, most wear resistant surface I can think of unless I can get my hands on a sheet of sapphire or tungsten carbide large enough for a platen.

I use window glass as a platen but they wear out and don't give as good a grind.

I got one of the lines from Darrin about a month or two ago and I love it. It has a very low drag and helps the belts run much cooler. I used to be able to touch the back of the platen and it would be hot after not grinding for very long. With the ceramic liner I can grind for some time and it doesn't get very hot at all.

I've been using a bit of 3/16" thick, borosilicate glass plate from McMaster that's holding up quite nicely.
