Ceramic tile for platen?

So I've been working diligently on getting my grinds down. Made great progress today then my only belt snapped. but I noticed my plunge lines were not very defined and crisp. After some research it's apparently due to the way the platen on the 2x42 curves. Lots of people have bought the glass platen from USA knife makers or went local. I have some extra ceramic tile laying around and was wondering if this would work just as well? Any thoughts? Thanks

I have read others say it will, but needs to have no texture and it won't last as long. No personal experience however.

I use a ceramic tile for a platen liner.
I buy the plain white 9" x 13" for less than 3 bucks.
On average I get about 4 to 6 months before they dish too much and need to be replaced.
I find that they work great, but your mileage could vary.
