Just wondering on average how fast you guys run your 36 & 60 grit ceramic belts for roughing? I've got an 1800 rpm motor and a 5" drive wheel running roughly about 2356 spm if my calculations are correct. I'm also using a KBAC 27 which would allow me to double that. Just wondering if I'm fine running where I'm at or would it be beneficial to 2x's the drive? I'm a newbie with the grind setup.

Fast is best with the ceramics. Pressure is also necessary.

Many guys run them up to 7K, but anything around 4-5K should work fine.

I'm running about 1000 fpm and that is plenty fast for me, lots of guys here run at faster speeds and love it, however at those high speeds all it takes is a twitch and you have a nearly roughed in knife ready for the scrap barrel

I've noticed that. On a few blades it didn't take long at all for me to be in trouble to the point of no return at the speeds I'm running. Maybe I'll just keep it where it's at until I get more experience.

If the speed is a restriction ( or a worry), use AO or Blue Zirconium belts. Ceramics need speed and pressure to cut and last properly.

I have a similar setup to yours, 1800 RPM motor, 4" drive wheel, speed doubled by the VFD. IIRC, that makes 100% speed about 3600 SFPM. I typically grind with the 50/60 grit ceramic belts at 70-80%, roughly 2500-2800 SFPM. Faster than that and I tend to mess up as many as I grind correctly.
