dibbler, you might have better luck searching for info if you spell it "serrated" and "serrations". :)

I was trying to help you, wiseass. :jerkit: I notice you went back and edited your post to correct your ignorance. At least you learned something today; unfortunately, you failed to mature any, kiddie.

Chill it was a joke I didn't mean anything by it I'm sorry if I offended you.
Don't take it so serious:thumbup:

I'm sorry for all of this attention I didn't mean to be sarcastic and certainly not to impress anyone else(who's there to impress?) and I sincerly didn't mean any disrespect I was joking and didn't mean to piss anybody off (I see I managed to do that already) I didn't mean to be objective to his advice I'm still trying to find it and I'm even more grateful that someone even posted a reply! Also it offends me when I am called a kiddie I try to resolve all my mistakes in an adult manner I don't know how many times I can say sorry but I am.

Thanks for the links.I took your advice on local blacksmiths and found one in the yellow pages thanks:thumbup:

You are now a charter member of the,"I got blasted by the old curmudgeons on BF" club.Don't take it to heart, and don't stop trying to learn.I'll give you some info so you can understand the reason a lot of stinging replies get started.

You are going on 15.Some of these makers have been making knives for twice as long as you have been alive.(some don't have 15 years left in them)
You post 6 times a day, some of them make knives ten hours a day.
You make an easy target for their frustrations.

It is part of being a youth to get excited and want everything now.Patience comes with maturity and is learned slowly. The tendency to start with complex things like serrated edges (which few makers ever attempt), swords, automatics,etc.....is hard to resist - but you will be well served if you do.Read everything you can get your hands on.Search old posts (when the search works!) ,google,go to hammer-ins,seminars,join the ABS and local societies, attend knife shows. These are how you get a broad enough base of actual experience to attempt complex things.I would suggest you check out www.knifehow.com .It is a tutorial/link site with hundreds of informative things on it.
You also must realize that knifemaking is a somewhat expensive vocation/avocation and it will take as long to acquire the tools as it will the skill. While you can make knifes with files and old car springs,it will soon start taking up more than your allowance (unless you are Paris Hilton).Get a part time job and open a savings account.Put half of EVERYTHING you earn in it (plus some of the Birthday/Holiday money).Don't spend it on anything for one year.At that point you will have a bit of funds, will have a bit more knowledge, and will have thought about what you need to get the most.

If you stick to it and work hard at learning, some day everybody will say,"Remember when Mark and Mike really ripped into dibbler? Boy he's come a long way since then!
Take care - work hard, stay in school, don't do drugs or you may end up like most of us guys. - Lonely and sitting in the dark ,hand polishing a knife at 2AM moaning,"My Precious,My Precious."

PS: Mark is probably jealous of you.He remembers how much fun he had when his testicles dropped. So many cows and so little time, was his favorite expression on the farm.

 Am I that predictable?

You think that's what it was, eh, Stacy? Yer way off base on this one. Perhaps you are willing to have kids shrug off assistance with a wiseass remark, but I haven't managed to shake off the basic tenets of politeness my parents insisted (read that as "beat into me") I have towards older people. I have an outdated sense of propriety, apparently. My bad. So very sorry....

dibbler, I am quite simply not used to the ways of youth nowadays. The facelessness of the Internet has made you bold, but posssibly not in a good way.

I am glad you will have people like Lovett and Stacy to help guide you along your way. It is perhaps time this "old curmudgeon" constrains his replies here to joking with a few friends and leaving well enough alone otherwise. Helping newbies around here is, after all, a matter of choice and not obligation.

At least now you'll remember how to spell "serration", I bet. Take care, and enjoy yourselves.

Mark, thank you for understanding..... :)

Dibbler, I'm sorry I left that out. Of course I accept it. Thank you. Sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I honestly thought that by giving you the correct spelling you could search for the answers yourself and thus get more info than I could provide.

I have learned a couple things on this thread. I hope you have, too.. :)

You can easily tell when politeness has been taught Thru politeness, and good manners,as opposed to a good old fashion trailer trash beatings. Looks like the politeness didn't last long from the wonderful lessons learned as a child. ( About one second)Damed sure isn't southern hospitality. No avatar has ever been more deserving. Mike Lovett. PS. My Mentor Bob Loveless has many times been accused of being gruff to newbies. Compared to some here, Bob and I can't compare. Of course I'm just a newbie my self. 30 years full time, 5 part time before that. Let me know when I'm at your exalted status. So I can act like the other old Grumps!!! You know, Like when my time is as valuable as yours. Haaaa! Some times I think we get a little too proud of ourselves. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior, not even when a moderator backs it up. Com'on guys. Are we pros, or not.

Little boys learn through repetition and trauma.

PS Lovett. Why do all of your posts mention Bob Loveless?

How True Whit. Bob? Bob Who. Heee!! Just seemed like the time to let some know that they aren't the most experience, know it all , beacons of Godliness on the planet. On a side note, many tell me that Bob is gruff, mean, and down right rude. I find that he is a man of deep thought, well read, very innovative, and funny as hell. He and Jim Merritt are probably two of the best friend I have. Jim is one of the nicest peopil I have ever meat. To them, I might well have been a Newbie, but was treated with respect, and encouragement.. even when I screw up. Some day I will be perfect, and never screw up, and can be an adult Horses Ass, and fit right in here. . Can't wait.

Lovett, this is funny. Of all the people around here, if there was for sure one arrogant self-important a$$hole worse than me I was absolutely certain it was you.

Why don't you make an effort to actually help around here and give us a guiding light? More than just telling us ad infinitum that you "know Bob". Put your money where your mouth was. Show up and educate people for a change.

You insulted my parents. That was comtemptible.:thumbdn: :barf: If that is a good example of southern politeness than I guess I am happy to be a northerner. I have friends who are actually polite southerners, though; you ain't like them.
