CF handles... what are they like?

I, unfortunately, don't live anywhere near a place where I could handle a Spydie with a carbon fiber handle.

So, I was wondering what they are like compared to a G-10. Are they grippy, bumpy, etc? From the pictures, they look smooth... but awesome.

I'm asking because I need to decide if I want to wait to get the Caly 3 with ZDP-189 with the CF or just get it in G-10.

TIA

Depends upon which model you are looking. The older CF were very smooth. However, the latest being the Military (I believe) is similarily textured to G-10. I would say the grippy grain is a bit finer than NIB G-10.

I agree - the CF millie is a bit "grippier" than G10, but its a whole lot prettier. But you're deciding between a Caly3 in VG10 w/G10 handles and one in ZDP with CF handles? I think you know you'll have to have both.:D

That's exactly the problem! I want both but I'm trying to be mature and only have one. :D

The CF being used on the Caly 3 is matte, not peel-ply. It is not noticeably textured and definitely not bumpy, but does not have the slick feel of the shiny CF either. It feels something like canvas micarta that's been sanded with 120 grit. To my eyes it has a much more refined appearance than G-10, at least G-10 the way Spyderco finishes it, and it should not chew up pockets.
