CFV 4.7 passaround

Hey guys, had the 4.7 for a week now. Great balde. Was supposed to head out to the woods today to get a little use out of it but unfortunately I got pulled into helping my sister and brother in law paint their house. I have messaged Brian77 for his info. I will send it out today if possible. I will also follow up later tonight with some of my thoughts on the 4.7. Also thank you to grogimus for the opportunity, it was very kind and trusting or him.

that's awesome, I cant wait to get a chance to work with it and compare it to the 5.1! What would be some good chores to put them both through that would be a good way to measure the capabilities of them and see where they may fit in someone system? looking forward to your thoughts and opinions

I need my house painted too. Just sayin'. 😀. Glad you like it.

Cutting up some veggies and doing a fuzz stick should let you know which handle size you prefer. One beef stew and fuzz stick, stat!

I'm not the person to ask on choil preference, I like my 5.1 but hate choils on general principle. By design you should be using the choil to choke up for finer work which involves a fairly tight grip. I don't want to be hanging on to bare metal for that stuff. To each their own though.

A longer blade can cut bigger pieces of wood, food, or whatever and is typically not as nimble.

Doing a try stick with each would probably tell you all you need to know about which handle you prefer and if you prefer having a choil. Break down a piece of wood to kindling and fuzz to see if you want the extra length on the 5.1. If you like the extra length of the 5.1 but don't like the choil settle in and wait for a 6.

Just some ideas/thoughts.

awesome thank you! I will definitely look at some of these as options!!! I really like the idea of doing a try stick with them and making some kindling and starting a fire, bc that will most likely what I will use them for. Also like the idea of idea of doing some food prep! Thank you.

I sent my info. Looking forward to using and experiencing a Survive knife. It will be my first.

For some reason I thought you had one or two. You've got some nice steel for comparison, so it will be interesting to hear your thoughts.

I have 3 on order. A 6, 4.5, and 12.

Looking forward to handle this one.

Ponoremos, this is headed to Brian right? Just checking in, seeing where it's at.

There may be some Poromenamonogamunomanous juice gong on in my head. I couldn't stop. Had to keep extending the consonants. Dang, my bad.

I received it today. We are checking it out. Looks good. The handle contours are interesting. It feels good in the hand. Can't wait to put it to work for a week or so. I appreciate the opportunity to experience this knife. Thanks.

I will update with some pics as I can.

Looking forward to your thoughts after some use.

We all have different hands and preferences, and I really love the handle. Then again I love the old spec handles too!

So I was contacted by Brian77 last week to let me know I was up next in this pass around, man was I excited! I completely forgot I had signed up.

I got it last week but was busy with work and a neighborhood dinner, so today I was chomping at the bit to get outside and take the 4.7 along.

First impression, as many of you know is that the ergonomics, like all Survive! Knives is just STELLAR. I honestly think they produce the most comfortable handles of any knives I've handled.

First part of the day was letting my daughter shoot her new bow, the 4.7 was used to sharpen some sticks to pin the target to a tree.

I then headed out into the woods to look for sheds.
Found this pretty large shelter in the woods, this must've taken hours.

Lots of signs..

Cleaned a lot of vines out of the way and chopped a few branches in the way, for such a compact knife it can get the work done.

Literally almost stumbled into this,, little creepy and very Silence of the Lambs
I'd say it was about 8-10 feet deep. No other structures nearby, very odd.

Found a shed, but I'd say about a year late! Funny to see the teeth marks..

As I was walking in the woods, I started thinking about what brought me here to the Survive forum in the first place. A gathering of some of the nicest people I'd ever know on Bladeforums, who really seemed to get out and embrace adventure, use their knives and enjoy nature.
I've said it before but I can't wait to see what 2017 brings for Guy and Ellie, and getting this forum back to what brought us all here in the first place.

Thanks to Grogimus for doing this, very cool and it's guys like you that make this forum what is it. [emoji1303]

Cheers Survivors!!

Thanks for the review rcb. That looks like a great day out with your girl! I totally agree with the sentiment you expressed above brother

Cheers!

Very, very cool, rcb. Sounds like a nice time with your daughter and a great time outside. Thanks for taking and sharing those pics. The 4.7 on the fungus is really cool. Have you ever seen the movie The Ring? If I saw a hole like that I'd be nervous there'd be a little girl ghost in a night gown with long, dirty hair down there. Ah! It must have been an old well, right?

And yeah, couldn't agree more with what you said about this place and Grogimus!

Around here the first sign that you've stumbled on somebody's old homestead is the ancient gnarly apple trees.
If you look around you might find an old foundation but often not.
It seems all the pioneers planted apples, possibly so they could make cider.
I've never noticed any old wells, but the surface water around here tends to be plentiful and clean.

Oh man, if I had thought of that while I was there I REALLY would have been freaked out!
I fully expected to see some dead animal in there, or worse.
There was a few logs placed in there but not deep enough for an animal to climb out.
I'm going to go back out there with my battle mistress and either cut a longer one with notches,, or just completely cover it.
