so I don't keep on recycling these old ones for my 15 seconds of gloating.

Shoulda thought to have my buddy shoot some photos the other day when I was (attempting) to throw it at an australian pine. Those trees are tough and the knife didn't want to stick. Theres a reason one of the common names of the species is ironwood. I actually had to strop the thing afterwards!

Magnum tiger hide slabs makes this knife the best fixed blade I've ever owned.

To borrow Gravelface's tag line, when I saw that the Knob Creek CG SFNO's were NOT included in the 13th annual KnobCreekganzaaa, I muttered " A crescendo of prolific profanities " to myself and ordered SFNO's from Garth. Plenty of time to save up for the prodigious bill but I'll finally have the blade coating and handle mat'l & size that I want. To borrow another tag line, "And so it goes." Pete

Very cool. Don't forget to post the pics in two years, when they finally come in.

btw, did you consider posting a WTB? Even at the current market price, they would be cheaper than custom orders, no?

If a lot of the $$$ for customs is in the CNC programming??? I wonder if we could get a decent price if there were like 20, or 30, or 50 of us who all wanted a CG SFNO. And many would want more than one. What do you guys think?

I'll take one, any one, I don't care if the scales are made of play-do, I want the BLADE.

The CNC programming is canned / on disk. Insert disk / download program. Done. Once written and de-bugged, its yours until lost or corrupted. (Back-ups are essential.) The $$$ goes to developing/de-bugging a NEW CNC program.
THE FOLLOWING IS A SEMI-EDUCATED W.A.G. An abrasive water jet to cut the blanks from INFI plate stock. Mill the main bevel, (Saber, flat, partial or full convex). Actually grind the cutting edge. Prep blade for finish. (DC/BB and Satin: More prep, more time, more $.) Heat/cryo treat/temper the blade. Different time exposures for different sized and different thickness blades. Finish the blade. Blank, mill and install handle slabs.
The $$$ for customs comes from the relative amount of time required for each knife. If you have to re-set the CNC program, the blade jig(s), the mill cutting head/bit,etc. each time you "grind" a knife, it is much more time consuming and expensive per knife than if you can do that set-up once, then run 100 or 1000. (Even more fun ($$) if they have to (if they can?) cut new blanks.) Its just a matter of inserting a new blank when the mill has finished the present one.
All that having been said, If Jerry and Garth will agree to a "group order", you folks might well be able to get a significant discount on the usual Custom Shop price. But.... I wouldn't expect Knob Creek prices as I believe that Jerry used that to motivate folks to actually go to these shows, instead of reading descriptions, viewing photos, and waiting for Ganzaaaaas, Grumpy old cynic that I am. Good idea, good luck, have fun. Pete

Resinguy,
No response. I figured there'd only be a very few available directly from Knob Creek and I believe they've all found new homes. I was a bit late (12 hours, I was at work) in responding on a black and black G10 w/ Xaman and he found an eager trader. After that, decided to keep my HH FSH and try to buy one but... (see first two lines.) With no offering at the ganzaa and the return of the Natural Outlaw (still SF? Who knows ?) not until after the ? Assault Shaker ?, ASH-1 and whatever other odd little knives Jerry dreams up in the mean time, I figure that the odds are good that not only will I get my Custom Shop CG's before the NO is re-released, but a Custom Shop order will be the ONLY way to get a NEW CG SFNO, outside of enlisting or staging a raid on Skunk's INFI vault/bunker out in Idaho. Disappointing, but not the end of the world as I have 9 CG BC blades in 6 different models to play with while I wait for the ASH-1 CG, my SFNO's and other general utility size range Busses to be released/delivered. Pete

I heard somewhere that the SFNO at Knob Creek were from blanks that the shop keeps around for warranty replacements. Still doesn't explain how they got flat gound instead of the original sabre grind. Then again, the Custom Shop SFNO that have come out recently have all been flat grind, so maybe it was just convenient to use the latest programming?

I think I NEED one of the new ones to compare to my original SFNO.

I wonder how much JWB it would take to get a shop tour? :D

Resinrib,
I guess that flat is the latest thing in main grinds. Or, unless Jerry has a VERY expensive and complex multi-axial CNC mill, its easier, faster, and less expensive to set up a standard mill for one grind plane (flat) than two (saber: 1st - between spine and "grind line" ; 2nd- main "grind"). Using my ASH-1 as an example, .22 " seems thick enough for a very sturdy blade and the full flat grind gives a sharper angle/more narrow blade at the edge. Lighter blade, faster, better slicer at the cost of some chopping ability and pry-bar strength.
I've e-mailed an order for both a saber and a flat grind SFNO (both CG, blk/mag blk micarta) but as yet, no reply. It sounds like that, if still available, the classic saber grind SFNO will be the pricier one of the two. Will post reply from Garth when received. Pete
