Like the subject says... If you had to get one (I know INFI disease tells the infected you have to buy both) but have to chose between one or the other.

Thanks

David

I would go with the BWM, since it is lighter and more carry-friendly. More usuable as a woods knife for me.

That doesn't mean it is better for you, though. ;)

I dont know - tough call.... I have both and if I had to part with one itd be my BWM - I love it, but there is just something awesomely sick about the CGFBM.

With that said, a BWM can be had for under $350 new on the exchange where a CGFBM is still over $500... Hard to beat the BWM for the price right now...

If money isnt a concern: CGFBM.

Either decision you make will be a good one.

EDIT: here is a quick and dirty comparison for you.

I would personally go with the BWM.

I am no fan of the corrugated bevel technology. :thumbdn:

Well my answer would be a SHBM....

But what will you use the knife for and will you be packing it around or just using it near your house or transportation? I like the CGFBM but it is bigger and heavier so it depends on what you plan to do with the knife and where.

.

OK SHBM..... I am new to Busse knives... what is that and will I break out in a sweat if I dont have one?

Well my answer would be a SHBM....

me too, and as close as one will get without spending more than necessary - is a BWM LE.

if it's between a CGFBM and a CG BWM, I'd go FBM.

but really, a BWM LE is where it's at.

IMO

OK now other options are coming into play....BWM LE... next someone will say .... NMFBM... I know good luck with that one.

OK the use of the knife will be for a KIT I am setting up so it will either end up on a pack/or a drop leg so weight might be a little bit of a option but not much

If you want to use it just fiddling around in the back yard or chopping on a ranch, get a FBM. If you want it for heavy use or hiking expeditions get the BWM. The CGFBM is a bit heavy for long use and your arm will definately suffer. Ask any carpenter if he would use a 26 oz. hammer all day at the job and you will get my drift. For "pro" work get the BWM, for playing around and enjoying the power of a heavy Busse - get the CGFBM. For me, I hate the ridges but love the design of the CGFBM. I think the overall design is cooler than the BWM and the handle is much better. The G-10 mixed colored handles on the FBM are, in my opinion, the most agreeable (to the eye) design of ANY Busse handles. Seeing as though I want to use the Mistress on long hiking trips - I definately prefer the BWM. If you are over six foot tall and over 200 lbs. maybe the FBM is OK for you - THEY ARE HEAVY BASTIDS. My 2 sense!!!!!

Seriously, what is your budget?

BWM CG: $350ish
CGFBM: $550ish
FFBM: $600ish
BWM LE: $620ish
NMFBM: $620ish
SHBM: $1,200+

I still dont think you can beat the BWM CG for the money right now... even though I prefer the CGFBM

Owned both of those (same colors as well!) and sold both. But I regret selling the BWM more.

I'd say get the BWM.

I finally used my BWM today. I chopped a small dead tree that had been laying near my home for weeks. The BWM did a great job and I had a lot of fun, not to mention the exercise I received. The only part of my body that hurt a little was my hand. I took pics, so I will see how I can post it. A few hours later I found another small tree about 12 feet long that had been cut and left on the side of the road. This tree was not dead. I cut two pieces from it, which were about 4 inches in diameter. I still have the rest in my backyard to cut later with my BWM for firewood.
I had the same issue deciding b/w the FBM, NMFBM and the BWM. My deciding factor was the price. The BWM is $200 less than the FBM and $300 less than the NMFBM. The experts on this forum told me the best chopper, or the top of the line was the NMFBM. The CGFBM is a bit shorter than the BWM while the NMFBM is an inch longer than the BWM. I chopped with the BWM today and it worked great. Some of the coating rubbed off at the edge. IMO Chris Reeves has the best coating.

Busse hit a home run with their mistress line.
If you have the money, I would go for the NMFBM. If you want to go backpacking, cut 4 inch diameter logs for a fire or shrubs, then the BWM at its low $345 price is the best choice.

If Busse would have lowered the price of their NMFBMs, I would have bought that one. I think the $600 price is a bit much for an inch more on the length and a littler wider on the blade. The BWM is sufficient steel to chop. I tested it today and I'm convinced its the one for me.
Let us know what you pick.

Well I am 6'2" about 275... not a small guy.. so the weight of the knife isnt a issue. I understand the weight issues... M4 instead of my FAL all day long Rifle is lighter... ammo is lighter. So I understand and I appreciate the thought

I am willing to pay a little more.... 1200 .... I cant justify it... so SHBM is out.
NMFBM... may be a a option... BWM and I am mixed on the corrugated blade design so CGFBM.. is a toss up.

Will a NMFBM fit in one of the "John Holmes sheaths ?

Not sure about the sheath query .... but my two favourite mistresses are the NMFBM and the BWM LE .... you cannot go wrong with either of those ....

I'm pretty new to the forum as well, and I went through the same question regarding a large Busse chopper. I ended up with an FBM LE. I think it is a bit lighter than the FBM. Being a full flat grind the angle at the blade is a bit less obtuse. It is very graceful and wicked. There is a video on youtube of one that has been convexed literally splitting a hair in two and then chopping a 2x4 in half in 7 strikes. Awesome. Plus I like shiny blades, all 6 Busses that I collected are very shiny. Also, don't hurry, take your time, do your homework, find the one that makes the most sense, they are out there to be found.
