CGFBM or BWM... help me decide

Sorry but IMHO the BWM combat grade is the best Busse ever practically speaking.

Will a NMFBM fit in one of the "John Holmes sheaths ?

Yes, it will fit the 1/4" liner.

The NMFBM is a beast compared to the BWM or the CGFBM. It really is a dedicated big chopper, while it's two smaller cousins are more all around versatile; better in a "one knife" scenario.

The choice between BWM and CGFBM may be infulenced by the nature of the things you imagine cutting/chopping with it. If that is more southern softwood and subtropical vegetation, than the BWM may be a better choice. For denser northen hardwoods, the CGFBM will put a little more weight/energy into each hit.

That is an excellent point Resinguy, probally why I find the BWM to fit my needs the best

I have nothing to add to this thread but I am going thru the same questions myself. I really like the look of the CGFBM but the input about the bwm in this thread is starting to sway me in that direction.

When I get one it is going to be a user, and it seems like the BWM has overall good reviews and the cheapest price tag.

I don't have a BWM, I passed on them when they were offered because I have a couple CGFBM's. I didn't see the need for another chopper.

Corrugated bevel technology isn't that attractive, but it serves a couple functions... One of which is weight reduction while still maintaining rigidity. The other one (my favorite) is it helps keep the blade from getting stuck/wedged when chopping.

It's not a chopper man, it's a slicer that can chop, split, and carve. :D

I have to say as much as I like my chopweiler my CGBWM is going to be my go to woods knife. It strikes an amazing balance between length, weight, thickness and width that makes it the most versatile knife I've seen.

If you can get your hands on a CGFBM you will never let it go... except to eat and drink. BWM is a great slicer but when you need to chop... well you know the rest.

I'm pretty new to the forum as well, and I went through the same question regarding a large Busse chopper. I ended up with an FBM LE. I think it is a bit lighter than the FBM. Being a full flat grind the angle at the blade is a bit less obtuse. It is very graceful and wicked. There is a video on youtube of one that has been convexed literally splitting a hair in two and then chopping a 2x4 in half in 7 strikes. Awesome. Plus I like shiny blades, all 6 Busses that I collected are very shiny. Also, don't hurry, take your time, do your homework, find the one that makes the most sense, they are out there to be found.

The FBMLE is actually a good bit heavier than the CGFBM because it is thicker. It is also my personal favorite of the FBM line when I just want to destroy wood and not have to worry about lugging it around.

But since it is not one of the options I would have to go with the CGFBM. With the right edge it is almost neck to neck with a FBMLE. I love the lighter weight of the BWM but the balance is a bit too neutral for my taste.

Are you referring to these videos that I did sometime back?

CGFBM. It has the classic Mistress look and is hands-down a more powerful chopper. If that is what you are looking for.

If it is a weapon you need, think Gladius.

not too much more to say, really, just personal opinions...

I have the BWM, the BWM LE, and a CGFBM.

The BWM is the one what I would carry on extended trips and as Resinguy said - for denser, but softer vegetation, and when lots of "bushwacking" xpected.
It can chop, fo sure. The convex edge and the relatively thin weight makes it a good slicer, but it can stick into wood, when batoning...not a big deal, it's just as it is.

The CGFBM is a classic. it chops better, splits better and it's a tougher knife.
but it is heavier and harder on the hand a bit. That would be THE knife, what I would reach for in a SHTF situation...it's just begs to be abused.

the BWM LE is the best of both worlds, one just have to battle with the psicho-barrier to really put the knife into use, because it's such a nice, perfect piece of INFI...

...good luck...:D
