So I always end up taking a deer's head off with a saw at the end of skinning anyway, inspired by a previous thread I figured I'd see how a CGFBM faired before field dressing.

A Single chop.

Deer is just a doe for meat. Killed it with a Romanian PSL (Dragunov clone) shooting 202gr softpoints in 7.62x54r

Looks kinda dark out! We normally field dress out deer before we toss 'em in the truck!

Nice cut though!!

Yeah it had just gotten dark. I killed it right before hand and was only hunting around half a mile from my house. In that situation it's easier to just bring it home and hang it before field dressing.

Cool. So did you slice through the neck or give it a whack?? Either way.... lokks like it worked fine!!

Just put it on that block of wood in the pics and gave it a whack.
I think if I'd just done it on the tailgate like I was originally going to I'd have cut through the bed liner:eek:

I dont think my new BAD will chop like that. Crap.. another Busse on the way I guess! Don't tell the Mrs!!

Thats funny, Knife Hunter just tried that and it took him two chops:D

Owned!

How does the PSL shoot?
I have always liked them and almost bought one awhile back but got a remmy 700 instead.

I've haven't tried enough different ammo yet to make a true statement, but with Russian light ball it's between 1.5 and 2.5 moa which isn't horrible.

The Barnaul soft point seems much better, but since I only had one box of it I only shot a 3 shot group to confirm POI before taking it out, it was about 1.25" at 100yds.

Honestly my main hunting gun is a 700, but I just got the PSL recently and decided I needed to take a deer with it.

Wow. Nice to see you getting some use out of that one.

I hunt with a Remington Model 7 in .308 here in Virginia and I love it! Great pics, thanks!

Thats not bad at all, they look like fun guns to.

My remmy 700 .270 Win is a vintage, it sat in a gun safe for probly 30 years before I bought it with no optics for a steal.
It shoots about .8 MOA with federal 150gr Hi-shok.
