Comparative pic vs. Endura and Subcom

The Grips

A new Slant on negative angle?

Angle views

Impressions; built as solidly as the Subcom, smooth opening, mine came toothy sharp.

More to come....

The flipper bar makes it easy to flick open

Push the flipper bar and nearly simultaneously give your wrist a flick and "snick" it is open....hard to show on camera.

It is easy to open and close one handed...with either hand, assuming moderately nimble fingers (i.e. no limited movement).
I am right handed, this is the left hand closing:

In the pocket

You can carry it tip up or tip down, but for safety's sake, I'm sticking to tip up pushed to the back of the pocket as shown in the picture. The reason is the kicker bar could easily open the blade. Not a good thing if you are getting some coins from the pocket and the knife is tip down. Really that is my only concern.

I wouldn't mind having the jimping on the blade increased in length. It is perfect right now for a classic sabre grip, but it needs to moved forward to assist in detail cutting. I know of no knife that does this...but it would be useful IMO.

The steel is AUS-8, so rust preventative is rec'd.

I like the curved groove in the FRN, it aids in easy opening of the thumbstud for right hands. Left handed opening is easy as no grippy FRN slowing you down.

My favorite feature is "finger choil" feature that increases finger safety.

That's a knife that grabs attention.

Can you give any details about the knife's dimensions? Blade thickness, length. Handle length, handle width ...

OAL: 6 5/8 inches
Blade length: 2 3/4 inches
Handle length: 3 7/8 inches
Weight: 91 grams = 3.2 oz?

*taken from EDCF

based on photos:
Handle width: 0.9 to 1.1 inches (varies along handle length)
Handle thickness: 0.3-0.35 inches.
Blade width: 1.2-1.25 inches
Blade thickness: 0.125 inches (guess?)

Here are the dimensions that I got. This is using the most accurate tape measure I have. :D

Blade length: 2 3/4 inches
Handle length: 3 7/8 inches
Weight: 91 grams

I hope some of these great CLB designs eventually become top-end models (titanium liner instead of steel, g10 instead of plastic, better steel). The SUBCOM is cool of course, but now this Trance is the right size to replace expensive normal-carry knives from other brands.

I like the hanging blade which makes it suitable for food too. If someone were to grind off the flipper, it would be 100% chop-friendly, although the blade curve would make it mostly workable as is.

On Boker's European website...

SUBCOM regular: 33 euro
SUBCOM rescue: 39
SUBCOM all black: 35
Trance: 39

I would say it passed with flying colors. Nice review by the way. All the in hand shots help me guesstimate the size real nicely.

Its definitely on my future to get list!

No problem Chad; I think I posted in the European subforum as well...I didn't try anywhere else as the Moderator Moving Van seems to move any other picture threads I start. :D

Also posted on Spyderco, but you were locked up during that time. ;)

Great photos Zen, some of the best ones I've seen for a while actually.

I've been waiting for this knife to come out since I first saw the design prototype. It looked really comfortable to me. I remember the prototype designs mentioning AO but I haven't heard much about that in this thread, so I assume that feature was dropped?

Not Chad, but you're correct, the AO feature was dropped. Actually, from what I remember, it's pretty different to his original design.

I think the original had G10 scales and AO. Can't recall any other dropped features off the top of my head.
