Hi guys. I just got back form a 24 hour adventure race and have a question about chaffing. In every race I've done(from 24hours to 3 days), the issue is the same. If anyone knows what baboon ass feelslike, they know it ain't funny:eek: ! I also tend to chaffe hard on my thighs near my boys. Ouch! I wear good wicking synthetic briefs, but the chaffing continues. I also use different anti-chaffing compounds with half-decent results, but I was wondering how you guys deal with chaffing in hot, humid environments or when you participate in activies that leave you in serious discomfort. Thanks.

Just some anti-bac talc powder applied regularly seems to do the trick !!!
A mate of mine swears by one of the lip salves !!!

I have the same problem with my football players during early season practices. I have a pretty good sytem of taking care of it:

1- Gold Bond medicated powder- Lots of it all over the ...em' affected parts. There is also a powder that you can buy at most truck stops called "monkey-Butt Powder" or something.

2. Wear some thin, skin-tight Spandex type shorts under your outer layer. This keeps your inner thighs and "boys" from rubbing together and creating friction, which leads to chaffing.

3. Apply the powder directly to skin, put on the spandex, then apply more powder to the spandex.

This technique worls very well for my athletes, and believe me, 320 pound linemen are VERY prone to chaffing. Hope it helps.

double layer..yea i know its hot but its better than having your inner thighs rubbed raw. boxer briefs and then the compression shorts over them works for me and other thunder thighed fellas.

Best cure for me was tightie whities....no boxers or boxer briefs.

I use the synthetic ones from MEC...and have at times worn lycra biker shorts. I know guys who have used vaseline, and lots of baby powder, but haven't done so myself.

I'm a runner as well and I use compression shorts. The ones for running are shorts with the compression part in them as well but they also make them separately for wearing as needed.

Take wider steps? I have a large gaite with a broad foot print and doing 16 hour days in the summer, rarely have I had chaffing issues.

First, COTTON KILLS! When cotton gets damp, either boxers or briefs, it gets abrasive. Get some polypropylene boxer briefs or compression shorts. Look out for big, mean seams that will want to take a bite out of you! Use the Gold Bond as well.

Had the same problem this weekend at the end of a 10 miler with the scouts. Gold Bond doesn't work worth a hoot if you leave it at home. Duh. I thinl I will try compression shorts. I remember football players wearing pantiehose under their jock straps and pants.

For me I find it's a ventilation issue. I wear shorter than average shorts when doing tracked walks. This seems to clear up the problem.
There has been twice where it got so bad I ended up walking in my boxers... Only a few strange looks luckily....

Spandex Biker Shorts
I swear by them.

Also I've heard rumors that some NFL players use womens pantyhose cut down to keep their pads from chaffing.

I sometimes do long distance, motorcycle endurance riding (1000 miles in one day, etc.) and the bicycle shorts work well when worn as underwear. There is also a product that motorcyclists use called - and I'm not making this up -

Anti-Monkey Butt Powder. It is available from Aerostich.com

Under Armour underwear(and outerwear) is awesome. You will never wear cotton underwear ever again.

These are what I use. At $20 for a single pair of boxer briefs, they aren't cheap, though! They are really popular with guys going BACK to Iraq!
