Chaffing, what do you do?

I do not use powder or grease, but have known runners
who use grease.

Some trousers are more apt to chafe: seams, roughness,
and placement of seams. For most trousers, the thickest
and roughest is the crotch where 4 seams meet. In any
case, I have found that keeping the crotch of the trousers
high against my boys
, offers the least chafing; because it
it keeps this 4-way seam up and away from the thicker part of
the thigh.
Keep trousers up with suspenders,
Walmart hook-to-belt type, being very good suspenders.

Bike shorts and underwear like them work great. Make sure they
come a long way down the thighs and fit tight, or they will ride up,
and then they will chafe you. Ordinary knit boxers will ride up.

Some very experienced long-distance hikers use Body Glide for chafing, and Hydropel on their feet to help prevent blisters and rot. And they tend to wear bike-style shorts too.

http://www.zombierunner.com/store/anti_chafing_and_skin_care.html is a site I surfed on-- note they have some trial sizes that would be good for first aid kits. I transfered Body Glide to a smaller ointment container to save room and weight.

Most distance athletes swear by bodyglide.

The fullproof solution is synthetic underwear in a double layer: first, a brief, then a boxer-brief style over the top. Check out terramar, its awesome.

Any tolnaftate medicated powder will help. I cut mine 3 fold with gold bond.

Combine that with an athletic supporter and ditch all undergarments so you breath solves most of the issues.

Other than that Bag Balm works for a bad case if its not fungal in nature.

Flip, how did you make out at E2C anyway?

Skam

Gold Bond will heal you right up over night. To prevent having to use it go with Bodyglide. I'm a marathoner and triathlete and even during extended periods of being wet the bodyglide will keep you a well oiled machine. Go with some sort of compression undershort. A boxer brief, or even longer ones and absolutely no cotton. You will not find an endurance athlete that wears cotton anymore. Too many superior materials. Before I get pasted for saying that I want to clarify that cotton has its place in casual clothing, but other materials perform better when wet for sure. IMHO of course!!

Chafing was always a problem with fresh privates, because they would loose weight and their pants would get baggy and chafe. Hands down the best anti chafe system ever is to 100mph tape the inside of their legs from crotch to knee, this is usually a field expedient fix when they are sniveling about how their legs hurt and they have to stop. This fix is guaranteed to get them through till the end of the ruck march.

I used gold bond until I found bodyglide. Now I can hike 25 or 30 miles and only a little chafe. Used to stop me at 15.

I was at REI tonight and bought some Body Glide and UA compression shorts. I had to explain to the 25 year old girl that I was a bit chafed from the weekend and what did she recommend. She was very cool and it didn't bother her at all. I left $354.00 lighter.
