try the hole through Egyptian type. A little more work but easier to drill. just drill a small hole in the middle with your awl or something just enough to get your cord through.

Cructy is a GO!!

This was the first pice of chaga that I have ever got to play with.
I am guessing that there are different grades/types better suted for diferent actions (Tea, fire prepect.)
