I have ordered from James in the past with no problems. I never commented on it because quite simply anybody can be a good dealer when things are smooth. However there were a couple of problems with my recent order of a few Spyderco's :

and James handled it well.

First off he was a little late in sending off the order because it was tax time and he made a post about this in the forum letting everyone know they could expect a slight delay. I emailed him a couple of weeks later and got the exact date. I was cool with this as delays happen and as long as I am kept on the level I have no complaints. However James went one step above this and gave a slight discount becuase the knives were a little later than he expected. I didn't ask for this but it was appreciated.

Second, as noted in the above link, my new Military had a lockup problem. This meant that I had to return it to Spyderco which meant I was out more money in shipping - this left me in somewhat of a foul mood. More so because I know I will have to wait about another 4-6 weeks to use the Military than anything else though. Anyway, James then drops me an email offering to compensate me for the shipping. I never asked him to do this but the offer was appreciated.

In short, I am pleased with the service and I know where my orders will go in the future.

James has always been more than fair in any transaction I've had with him. You could do worse with almost any net dealer; but you couldn't do better than James' Chai Cutlery.
The guy just walks what he talks.

I just want to second these kudos for James Mattis. I can sum up his approach to business in one word: integrity.

Thanks, James.

Not to forget, he' s got the latest and greatest pics all the time!! Thanks James.

James is consistently the classiest guy in our universe. Bill Martino and Pala are in the same category but I personally know of no others in sales of any type that meet their levels of consistent honor. And it shows in areas above and beyond just sales and customer service.

James Mattis has an excellent web site and excellent customer service, especially if you consider the fact that this isn't his 'real job'. A real pleasure to deal with.

I've dealt with him twice and both transactions were fast and correct. He also has a knowledge base that's fun to tap into with honest answers, no bias.

Another "Thumbs Up" for Mr. Mattis.
he phoned me about a request for a Spydercard that I had almost forgotten that I'd made. When he got them, he called- nobody does that anymore...

One more thumbs up here.

I ordered two pink crickets for my wife and granddaughter. James said that he was out of them but had two on order. He shipped after finding out that one of them would be a while with a note of explination. Last week I got a call telling me that the other knife was in and did I still want it. I received it in the mail three days later.
Great work, James. There will be more orders in the future.

Thanks, but . . .

Sometimes I'm fast. Sometimes . . . . . . .

This week I owe a few people "deferred gratification discounts" for sins of confusion of mind.
