VERY pretty!
Beautiful pattern to it. Do you have a pic of the chain before you started working it?

Chain saw damascus is very pretty, and your piece is no exception! Bravo Bruce. That blade style is awesome too.

It is just a double blade catcher, otherwise it is just a pretty to stop the eye...

William Gibson mentions a blade forged from a motorcycle chain in "all tomorrow's parties"; always wondered what it would have looked like...

Bikewer,if you will follow the link on the last post to photo point and go to my index you will find a couple of knives forged from a Harly Davidson primary chain that I did last year.

IMO, that's the most attractive piece of chain damascus I've ever seen. I'm really curious about the large size of the pattern. Does that mean it hasn't been "folded" or whatever they call it as often as most damascus? Along the same lines -- I'm sure displaying my total ignorance of forging -- can't help but wonder how many times steel items with "hollows" in them have to be pounded out to make sure there are no tiny spaces, or I guess, to be sure the steel is as strong as it needs to be? I'd really like to see more damascus with large patterns that isn't mosaic.

Thanks for sharing such a nice knife with us!

Thanks for posting the pic of the chain Bruce. I never cease to be amazed that something so beautiful can come from something so plain and utilitarian.

Congratulations Sing, you picked a winner!

I have found that the main reason for allot of folding in a billet is to homoginize out the steeel expecially when you have mild steel in the mix.
I tried folding the chain and all that I ended up with was a washed out pattern that looked like random pattern Damascus. You have to work the chain carefully from all sides and not hit to much in one place if you want a bold pattern.Once it is welded it id welded. You may end up with a little pit here or there once in a while but I have found these not to hurt the finished blade.I tried a flex test and did some chopping with this blade brfore I put the final etch and handle on it and it held up as well as any of my other blades do.

Thanks much for the response, Bruce. It is good to hear that the strength is right up there. Makes me wonder why I've never seen any other chain damascus like it. It is so stiking and beautiful compared to any other I've seen!

I have seen this type of Damascus a few times but not much.I think that everybody is trying for the Mosaics more than anything now..Plus the chains are not always that easy to get ahold of.If it wasn't for having a connection to a Harley Davidson shop I wouldn't have any Harley chains to try.In my opinion they are just as good as Cable Damascus to use.
