Chainsaw bar metal?

Does anyone know what type of metal is most often used in chainsaw bars? In particular Oregon brand bars.

An old mate and I cut one up a couple of years ago. We mixed it with something else to make Damascus. I remember it was soft enough to cut on the bandsaw. There are easyer ways to get steel but it was a fun kind of thing.

On the knife list, I think they said Oregon bars were similar to 1095 IIRC
