I finished this up this morning. Oal- 8 1/8" w/ 3 3/4" blade. The blade was made with 3 chainsaw chains and some 1084 powder, all mixed together in a 2 1/2" can. The guard and pommel are made from a piece of twisted damascus and the handle is whitetail antler. I did some test cutting with it and it will really go through the rope and stay shaving sharp. It goes to a chainsaw dealer friend, he and his huntin buddy always kill 4 deer during rifle season, so it should get tested good in about a month.

Really nice Bill

Bill, I always like your stuff but you really outdid yourself with that one. There are very few knives made from damascus that I would like to use as well as own. That one hit the best of all worlds.
AAAAAAAAAA+

looks like you can see some of the nickel plating from the teeth
of the chain in there, did you use Oregon Chain? nice job,,:)

Thanks guys,

Peter, you need to use more damascus blades, I've had some great reports on damascus knives and hawks I've sold that will top any knife or hawk the customer has ever used. I just received word from a guy that has one of my damascus hawks, he stated that he uses it every day and it was the toughest hawk he's ever used. I don't want to start a discussion again about what is better, just saying damascus blades are more then just pretty.

Dan, 2 of the chains were Oregon, 1 was a sthil.

Thanks,

Bill

Very nice, Mr B! That steel turned out right interesting, didn't it?

You don't have to sell me on damascus Bill. Some of it I make far out cuts my normal carbon (5160) knives. My problem is I hate to scratch it up. I hammered this one out a while back and I just can't bring myself to use it!

Nice lookin piece Peter, you won't scratch it up and if you do, you know how to make it pretty again :) , I've found that if you use a knife for what it was intended (cutting, and I'm not talking wire or rocks) and not abuse (prybar, hammer or crowbar) they'll stay looking and performing great for a long time. ;) But I understand not wanting to use some pieces, even though you know they'll perform well, there just to nice to handle and look at.. I'm that way too.

Bill

Bill great looking knife. Just a question on the number of folds you use.
How many times do you fold. do you have problems with slag or cracks.

I have made some chain I was very happy with. The less I fold it the
better I like the pattern. Only problem the less I fold it the more times I find little cracks or slag.

Any tips.

Very sweet! Gotta give that chainsaw stuff a try.
J I've thrown out tons of chain in the past 15 years
as a chain saw dealer. how many do you want?:D

Reg, This wasn't folded at all. The problem with chain saw chain is all the little holes in the links, trying to get those little holes all mashed and welded together before scale builds up and cause inclusions is a pain. So with this one I illiminated the little holes by can weldimg, folded and wadded 3 chains into a piece of 2 1/2" box tubing, hammered the crap out of them, added 1084 powder to fill all the little holes and welded it up, bing, bang, pow, no inclusions, just a nice solid bar of steel stretched out to 1/4"x1 1/8" ready to forge blades out of.

Thanks,

Bill

Way Cool Bill, I've done a couple of billits of chainsaw, but always got inclusions. Might have to give the can a try.
