Chainsaw

< ^ 088  :D. What are you a lumberjack? :p Seriously, to the OP if you take care of that Husky, it will serve you well for many many years. Keep the bar and chain clean and out of the dirt. Clean the machine thoroughly after every use. Use the right ratio in your gas/oil mix with good high octane gasoline and try never to run out of bar and chain lube. Then you'll be :). :)

I am moving to area where wood cutting is close bye. The forests are mainly fur and pine. My local big 5 has Stihl and huskivarna. They seem to cost the same based on engine size. Is one better than another? Is it the ford, dodge and chevy argument? Thanks for your opinions.

I have to put in my vote for a Husqvarna. I grew up using a cheap chainsaw that lasted a long time, but for my own use I wanted something I could plan on having for a long time. I did some research, and ended up buying a Husky 350 off eBay for $300 shipped.

This has been a great saw! In the year or so I've had it, I've cut probably 15 cords of wood. This thing just cuts like mad! The easiest part of firewood gathering is the cutting, using this saw.

I had to fire my saw up the other day when it was about 7°F, and it started right up and ran fine (once it got warmed up, just like in the summer).

I've heard good things about Stihl, too, so I don't think you can go wrong either way. The only thing I would change is to get a 20" bar instead of the 18" one I have. At 6'4", I have to bend WAY over to cut most wood, and a slightly longer bar would be nice.

I have been trying to kill a cheap, 16" Poulan for ten years......

hehe.

one of the best chainsaws i've ever used is a good mates 1970's vintage 2-stroke 'Echo'.

it has more power than any one person could desire in such a compact saw and a complete absense of anything that could even vaguely be regarded as a 'Safety Feature'.

it will, however, cleave through seasoned gidyea wood like it was butter.

that little saw is pure, noisy evil and it refuses to die, no matter how much abuse it cops.

all that said, my mate is religious about keeping the chain sharp, which probably does more for it's performance than the ridiculous amount of power it generates.
