A gunshop in town has one of these for sale new in the box with the original UPS packaging from their supplier and everything; the price is $135. Is this a good deal, do you like the Centofante II, and, finally, should I spend the money? I personally like the looks and was wondering what the general opinion was. Thanks for the help. God bless America.

I love the Centofante II, one of my favorite Spyders. That's more than you may pay on the secondary market, but I wouldn't call it an outrageous price. You can always try to haggle a bit. They're not that easy to find, even more so if it's mint condition.

With patience you could it for far less than $100 on the internet...but you don't get the benefit of handling it first to inspect for possible defects.

Follow Jujig's advice...that knife has been sitting in that store not turning over money for the owner for years and years. A smart businessman will realize that allowing a haggle and unloading dead weight is good for him (and you in this case).

$135 is a good deal if it is PE. If it is CE, like most Ihave seen, it is a little more than used priced I have seen. In general, a nice lightly used Cent II CE (that is what they call the SE because it has 3/4" of PE at the tip) will go for about $100 give or take. Since your's is new, $135 is not out of line.

The PE is another story, $135 is a real good price. You just don't see them. I had one when I first started getting into Spydercos and I traded. I wish I still had it because it was such a nice knife. It would cut like no other knife due to the ultra thin and point blade. It is an exacto writ large.

My advice is to haggle since it is at a gunshop and they expect it. They probably paid about $90 new for it so you might get lucky and offer them $100. If it is the PE and they won't come down in price, buy it anyway. If it is the CE and they won't come down in price, it depends on what your plans are for the knife. If it is for the collection and the "newness" is a big deal, buy it. If you plan on using it and they won't budge, I would pass. There are too many deals on the CE version for less.

The knife is one of the very best ever made by Spyderco IMHO. It is a knife that only Spyderco would have the guts to produce. Most companies are not interested in making knives that may actually break if you don't know what you are doing. The Cent II is a tool for the guy that knows what a knife is all about. It is not for the ham handed or guys that try and cut their way out of a car for no good reason. It will break if pushed beyond it limits. It will also preform better than any other knife within it limits.
