Change clip location Military BG-42 ?

Just purchased a Military Bg-42. Very nice. HOWEVER the clip is just not right position. I need tip up.

How can I change the clip location.

My endura has the 4 options. Why does the Military a much higher quality knife only have one position?

Will Spyderco do this for a fee?

Is this a lost cause?

Regards and thanks,

I think a modded BG-42 Millie with clip up is for sale today on these forums.
I think about $150.

I think new holes can be drilled and a new clip installed to allow clip up carry.

I have done two in just the last few days for folks.

Look here if you want to see one with the scale off the knife.

If this is not for the link to the last page in my pocket clip thread you will need to go there. Both these guys I've done this for had what looked to be Emerson pocket clips but I can make them or use an old Spyderco clip or whatever too. You can also see a lot of them in my homepage links to my galleries by clicking my screen name and going to my homepage. STRprojects has some pics of clips I've made also. I don't know which has more. There is no real order to those pics. Just a jumbled mess of pics is all it is.

What I've done here is simply mark drill and thread the holes, then by taking off the scale go in from behind and inlay threaded inserts of stainless into the handle from underneath so there are no stripping issues. Carbon Fiber is notoriously bad for holding threads very long or very well. I do notice Spderco is using some of the better CF I have ever handled and the finish is superb on the texture. Just perfect actually. I have done this to G10 also.

Looks like you are the man to help me.

I would like to send you my Spyderco Military BG-42. For a change of locations. Probably would like to do two locations if possible.

Regards,

Please send me details

Thanks

Unsolicited post:

STR will not steer you wrong. He recently did a great job adding a low-rider clip to my CF BG42 milie. I didn't change the orientation of the clip from the factory holes, but I imagine Steve can handle that job just fine.

Hi Str
Where can I order online, this threaded inserts ?? I want to mod some of my knives:)
Thanks Arnon

You have to make your own. Thats what I do. You can do a backing plate all one piece of thinner titanium like in a .030 to .035 thickness and install that after drilling and threading holes in it once its glued in place. I did them that way for a while.
Or you can buy some pivot pin barrels already threaded for the correct size for the screws you use and simply cut off end cuts from these barrels like I did and insert them into holes predrilled in the right places behind the screws and recess them down into the handle.

Drawbacks are that the inserts even when glued in can still pop out but so long as you don't lose one you can reinstall. If you take the clip off its best to keep screws in the holes to keep the inserts in place.

Not trying to steer work away from STR, but while I prefer the tip up carry position on my knives, I just feel that tip down is conducive to the handle on my G10 Millie. I put a lanyard on mine and only carry it in my pocket. Just my 2 cents. STR, I might be sending you my Millie too, but I would like to see how it felt first.

Yeah, I don't have one or anyway to arrange that for you. All I can say is the clip does come off if it didn't sit well with you. I try real hard to shoot for invisible in the hand as much as I can though. Not always possible with low riders but the standard style clips sit low and can be very invisible. The last two Millies I did that sent Emerson clips with the knives were quite nice. The clips like those from the Calypso Jr from Spyderco are quite good also.
