Change in payment policy for Yangdu Specials. Read before you buy -- or try to buy.

I guess I'm out on buying now...I will not sign up for PayPal after what a friend went through last year...to those that have caused this to happen, "you'll get yours in return"

I've made an embarrassing number of payments to Uncle Bill using Paypal, and have never had a problem. Not a recommendation, just relating an experience.

well that sucks.
i paid for my BAS with a money order and the whole transaction took a week. i can't believe ppl who are taking a month. ridiculous.
you ruined it for me. i can't get UBBB's anymore. i hope you're happy!

Blinded:

Set up a PayPal acct. You won't be sorry, and it's _fast_ (and free). I have the default set to take the $ directly from my checking acct., but also have a couple of credit cards on file I can use in an emergency, i.e., I have no $ in my checking and Uncle Bill just trotted out some one-of-a-kind UBBB jewel I just HAVE to have!

Both you and Uncle Bill will receive an e-mail notification of the transaction for your records. Also, I always fill out the "comment" section online in the PP transaction in great detail with a cut 'n paste of Uncle Bill's own text from the special so there is no doubt as to what knife I am paying for. Uncle Bill has a lot to keep track of and I think that helps him and Yangdu keep things organized.

I send USPS money orders or cashiers checks to people I DON'T know, but after umpteen transactions with Uncle Bill I know you don't need that kind of backup at all.

Regards,

Norm

You can email credit card # and exp. date but do it in two emails for security. 8 digits one mail, 8 the next. We can process it via Yahoo.

If you really must you can call me with card number but I like to keep phone line open.

From the way *I* read this, existing customers who have always paid without delays :D will be the exception to this new method of business. I'd say it's a  "Don't Panic" until you see otherwise...

Sweet?

two things:

1. Up-date your email addy in the BF profile.

2. Let me know if you GOTTA have something.

Perhaps while we're discussing Paypal someone can quickly clarify something for me (and inform those who know even less about it than I do): How exactly is the Paypal charge applied? I've been warned that if you ever use a credit card to purchase something via Paypal, or accept a payment from someone else's credit card via Paypal, the 3-4% charge will apply to every future Paypal transaction regardless of the source of funds. For this reason I've only been using bank account transfers for purchases and only accepting payment from bank account transfers, and haven't yet incurred any fees. Can someone shed some light on the Paypal credit card charge?

Thanks, and sorry for the thread drift (Hey, it's the Cantina- there'd be problems if the thread doesn't drift. :) )

I've used paypal a bazillion times for all sorts of stuff. No problems yet.

Use a separate, small balance free checking account and tie it to paypal. Then you can just transfer funds to that checking account to cover your paypal purchases. If you get paid by paypal, sweep the paypal account to your free checking account, then transfer to one of your other accounts. It is best to have "banking online" set up with your bank so you can make the transfers anytime. It is painless and fast.

YMMV

PayPal is great. You can recieve money as well. Sorry for the problems Uncle Bill. As said before, take care of yourself and your family first.

My understanding is that in addition to surrendering the bank account number one agrees to allow them access to it in the fine print. I really don't like that, so a separate, low balance account seems a good idea to limit risk if one uses Paypal.

Sorry to here this. Every khuk I've ordered, I've sent payment the next day. But, as they say, life goes on, adapt and overcome. UB, or Rusty, you might think about putting a sticky on this thread, at least temporarily, to make sure that everyone sees it.

To clarify, if you send money to someone via paypal for goods bought, YOU don't pay any fees. So if I send $100 to H.I., than the exact $100 will be charged to my credit card.

However, H.I will be charged 3%.

So we the consumer send $100 of our money, and H.I gets $97. Its the seller who takes the hit.

You pay a fee no matter what, Dave. Paypal, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AmEx, etc....they all take their cut.

Bill - email sent...got an idea.

Hope so, only idea I got is to upgrade my bank card to a debit card, and hope H.I. is set up to handle online debit card transactions. I'm c.c. and debt free, and paypal is c.c. centric.l

Just registered my Paypal account (thanks for the link, guys). If this'll save Bill and Yangdu some aggravation, I'm all for the change in policy. Besides that I'm used to paying for stuff online with my c.c. so this shouldn't be all different for me anyway.

Hi Guys
I use Paypal regularly, very convienient fot those outside the US. I never sell anything so the 3% fee is not my problem, vendors often ask it be added to the price, or split the difference. It is fast and easy(probably too easy), yhere have been a few horror stories, mostly tied up with ebay. I have been using Paypal for a while but only stated with ebay recently. Very cautious!!!.
With papal the tranaction is clearly documented to say the least.
YMMV
Phil

PS hadn't heard about the anti-gun thing though.

I agree with what pmel018 says. I use paypal pretty regular (and usually on ebay too). I've heard the horror stories but maybe I've been lucky. I've never had a problem, knock on wood.

Just my 2 cents worth.

As one of the "Old Timers", I have always been amazed at Uncle Bills willingness to ship before payment was received and being such a trusting and good soul. It is a shame that as Himalayan Imports popularity has grown and more people find them, more people of questionable character find them also. Thus the need for change in policy.
I have always thought that pay up front, or at least before shippment should be required policy in buisness anyway. Keeps misunderstandings and problems to a minimum. We are behind you both and back any call you make. :D

I'm one of the guilty parties that took over a week to pay for a blem. Sorry if I messed it up for others. In all fairness I never got an email response saying that the knife would be sent to me. I figured someone else got the knife so I proceeded to pay utility bills then one day a triangle box showed up on my doorstep. I went to my checkbook to send payment but I used the last one for bills. I had to order more checks and wrote to HI asking if they wanted another form of payment or if they could wait until my checks arrived. No response from HI so I sent a check a week later.

How do we go about using a credit card through the HI website? What if there isn't an item of equal price?

Maybe UB could add a $1 "dummy item" to the online store, so anyone who wants to pay for, say, a $125 UBBB can just add 125 of the "dummy items" to their cart. A somewhat inelegant hack, but it might work.

Of course, I imagine Yahoo Store takes a chunk of the profits too. I don't know how their costs compare to Paypal, maybe UB does it through Paypal for a reason.
