ATTENTION:

This is to advise you of the following changes in the Foxy Folly Knife. It will be a 17inch overall length, slimmer handle with a total weight of 28 ounces. This will make this knife much easier to handle. These changes have been made after my observations in the Shop on my last trip to Nepal.

timely news :) i'll keep my eyes out.

I think this is a positive change. I have a Bura 17" 24 oz., one of the first two made to the new spec, and it is nice and lively but I can see several waves in the blade, I'm sure because it was so hard to keep straight when heated because it is so flat and thin. I'm not sure if any of you other folks with 17" 24 oz. have seen the same, so maybe it's just mine.

I also have one of the prototypes at 17" and 34 oz., by Sher, and it is dead straight and far stronger IMO. But it is a bit too heavy. 28 oz. would make it just right.

I have no opinion on the handles as the standard FF ones fit me just fine, but a thinner handle also works for me. I have found that while people with medium and smaller hands cannot go larger, that people with larger hands can pretty easily go smaller diameter, as long as the length is still about the same. Rusty's Sanu Hanshee has the handle taken way down, but it is still very comfortable for me.

Can't wait to see the new ones and get reports from the new buyers.

Thanks,

Norm

I think that will be a popular chang Aunt Yangdu. Thanks for the information. I do love my 18" 24 oz one, but I wish it were a few oz heavier. Beautiful work though. How's Kumar?????

My 17" 23 ounce has proven itself to me, but I understand that a heavier blade is easier to temper by primitive methods.

I have a Tora khuk, the same thickness as my FF and it wavers due to using it on hard wood.

I like the thin fast FF knives. I think these are for fighting not work.

My knife screams WEAPON when ever I handle it. Got some AK and GRS knives to go hack hard stuff up with.

What do you mean when you say wavers?

As much as I like to beat the 24 ounce drum, I'll bet that more people will be happy with the 28 ounce version...especially the kamis. :)

I can only imagine how difficult it was to make the lighter ones.

Sounds good to me. Like I need another having 2 already, but methinks I'll go ahead and make my special order one fairly soon.

I know one handle size does not fit all, just as one shoe size does not fit all. I don't want to put more complications in the kamis lives, but if there were "standard" handle sizes such as small, medium, and large for a khuk and these dimensions were known to all of us, then we could order a FF or other standard khuk with a small handle if we had "small" hands, a medium handle if had "medium" hands, and so forth. To me, a comfortable handle is half the value of the khuk, and that is why I have ordered some customs with special specs. I believe we should discuss this at the upcoming Reno khonvention.

A slimmer handle and a weight of 28oz will make the new FFs a sweet deal. If I didn't already have a BGRS at 17" and 28 oz I'd be interested.

I'm glad that the idea of slimmer handles is being addressed.

I felt that the YCS was kind of a dissapointment because it was so big handled and heavy.

I'm interested no matter what. After handling my FF and wishing for the four ounces. I definitely want one with a curvier handle at 28 oz. I like the lenghth too. Such a pretty piece of steel. You really gotta see one of these to get the full WOW they inspire.

Yangdu,

Is there any chance of them making any YCS's that are less than 2 lbs, say 25 oz and with a thinner maybe even stick tang to lighten them up some?

I personally wouldn't even care if it had the inlays or the big cardas, I think that the YCS is one of the nicest designs but it is too heavy and thick handled.:thumbdn:
