Changing Belt Grinder Drive Wheel, Kalamazoo 1x42"

Hey I just got a 1x42" Kalamazoo grinder, and I got a little curious about modifying it. Is it possible to take the main 1" drive wheel and change it to a 2" drive wheel, thus making the grinder a 2x42"?

Or maybe if I just widened the platen, and put a 2" belt on there, with the original drive wheel, would that work?

Also, has anyone made any modifications to their Kalamazoo 1x42" that you would suggest?

Why not? The HP might be a bit low but still, I think there would be enough power. I've also helped more that one person change their grinder from 42" to 72".
