Changing EDC

Have you guys ever thought about changing your EDC and then realized that you carry what you carry for a reason? I got up today and was thinking about not carrying a multi-tool because I don't use it a whole lot in my job so far today I have used it three times and it's not even lunch.

I don’t have a SAK that’s my every day carry, I tend to shuffle thru mine because I gotta justify buying them.

From time to time tho there’s an occasion when the model in my pocket isn’t equipped with a specific tool I need. What makes it worse is knowing there’s a Vic at home that does. That makes the trip to the jeep to get in my toolbox an angry one with me throwing out random curse words along the way. 😂

more than once.
perhaps  someday I'll stop trying to "replace" a stockman with a lesser pattern, and just add the lesser pattern to my pocket with the stockman for the week's carry.
I'm still battling the urge to put a 110 (or 7OT) on my belt along with the Leatherman Charge and SAK Hercules ... tho I have seen pictures of a few guys wearing their sheathed 110 as a neck knife ... maybe I'll try wearing mine as a tie, too. 😁

Yeah it’s a little heavy to carry but it gets used occasionally. :)

Sure, but I don't think it hurts to test long held assumptions.
Sometimes life changes, sometimes you don't notice exactly what you do, sometimes something new seems to have a better mix of tools.

This big time!

I like to do a quick review in the morning as to what I am doing that day. My EDC will change depending on if I am canoeing on a lake or river, or going downtown to an art museum, or taking a cross country road trip from our home in Texas to the daughters family place in California. Downtown Austin music venues will need a different EC than beach going on California. Will I be out at night and need more flashlight than my usual Fenix E01? For night out I add the AA mini Maglight.

Things change an there is not EDC that covers it all. Daily modifications are made.

I still carry even if I may not need it but may carry less

Eg : i dont carry a leatherman on the weekends but still have my SAK

Rather have it and not need it than need it and dont have it

For me it generally all just comes down to what I feel like carrying, there's not often a specific need or reason for what I choose to carry that week.
For multitools and such I tend to just stick with one until I get the urge to switch it up somewhere down the line, could be after after a couple months or a couple years, same goes with flashlights and basically everything else except knives.

There have been times where I was looking to make a change but couldn't come up with anything that would best the current combination so I didn't switch it up, usually I can eventually come up with something to try out though.

Generally it's all centered around my goal for efficiency and capability in a small package without redundancy.
I just want a small pair of pliers, toothpick, tweezers, splinter pick, scissors, and a couple of drivers.
It can be difficult to efficiently meet that goal without redundancy.

Always a Leatherman and a pocket knife. They’re part of my pants / attire each day. A mini-flashlight also, even in daytime.

Its always amazing to me how many people do not carry even a tiny keychain light! It's right up there with not carrying even a teeny itty bitty SAK classic. I mean, as long as I've been alive, it gets dark every night. And we humans have excelled at building huge buildings that in the center have no natural daylight, so if the juice goes off, you're back to feeling your way to the stairs. I don't now how many times I've needed a small flashlight to find something that fell down between the front seats in the car, or looking for something in the back of a closet.

Gibbs may have a rule for 'always carry a knife', but I have a rule of 'always have a flashlight.'

I carry a small el cheapo flash light with me at the moment
I have a klarus and 2 fenix flashlights but they became a bit big for all the stuff I carry so stopped carrying a light for a while

I admit that I carry too many knives usually. I have an SAK Classic on both key rings. I also have a slip joint in my right front pocket. My EDC is clipped on my right front pocket. I have an auto, flashlight, and Blistex in my left front pocket. I have a multi tool on my belt. My wallet is in my right rear pocket, while my phone is in my left rear pocket. I don't carry the multi tool on my days off and my EDC changes. I use a box cutter at work. I carry my 4MAX Scout on my days off. I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Gabs may have a rule for 'always carry a knife', but I have a rule of 'always have a flashlight.'
Yes! Even on the sunniest days it is incredibly dark under the seat of my truck. Many times have I had something fall between the seats or under the seat and I can’t see a darn thing. It’s too cramped under there to just jam my hand in there and start feeling around. I need to know where to feel - and THAT’S where a single AA Fenix E12 is the Hero of the day!

ALWAYS a mini-flashlight in my pocket, day and night.

Yes, I have!

No matter what, ive got a microstream stream light, a lighter, my small knipex, and something with a screwdriver on it. As far as a dedicated pocketknife goes, that depends on where the addiction leads me.
Oh, and about 12 feet of paracord for when i need a third hand.

Man, I once counted... three Stockman slipjoints, an OT folding hunter, a couple SAKs, multitool and necknife (The fact that you carry such I find absolutely awesome). At eight, that point, I would just totally give in and carry whatever and however many I want short of what over-encumbers you. 😁
Speaking of, belt carry def helps with weight issues for me. Ever added up your oz? Cause I notice you carry pretty light even if they're a lot of knives.

I do that, by the way - carry a knife that is new/I'm not sure about, basically "lesser" along with a tried-and-true to test it out and see how I like it, sometimes switching knives during the same task to see how they perform. I'd totally recommend carrying random different styles and patterns with your stockman - I love my cotton sampler from Rough Ryder for occasional use just for fun. and certain tasks.
