Changing loyalties

Recently, the only knives I've been buying are Spyderco. I went from owning 5-6 Benchmades (selling and buying a few here and there), and a single Spydero Endrua 4 Waved, to the Endura, P'kal, Spin, Gayle Bradley, and now I have a Super Hawk on the way.

I was very loyal to Benchmade for a few years, then I started playing around with the unique designs from Spyderco and just fell in love. My co-worker pointed out to me that I've become slightly obsessed over Spydercos, and I really have. I keep looking in the 2010 catalog even though I know almost everything in there. I keep looking at new knives to play with or to buy.

Long story short, Spyderco is my new favorite brand that I own, and I just wanted to thank a local Colorado company for pumping out some great quality and designs on their knives.

That happened to me too. Three years ago I didn't even like the way a Spyderco physically looked but as soon I "bedded down" my first one I became addicted to them for everything they represent. Spyderco is always on the move, never sitting down on their laurels. And almost every knife they create or collaborate on is a gem. Above all, they are a quality company producing super high quality production knives that I can't get enough of ;)

In the same boat, I was never fully loyal to a single brand until spyderco bit me. I own 3 Kershaws and then I got my first spydie, the Endura 4 wave..I now own 17 spydercos

Why be loyal to a company? What have they ever done for you?

Just go with the one that makes the best products. That happens to be Spyderco right now.

They have produced exceptional knives at amazing price points. Every man to his own opinion as far as "best products" goes, so that's where loyalty can chime in. Not going to buy a knife that I don't like because im "loyal". Think the word is just being used for those who are infatuated with Spyderco or any other company they highly indulge in.

For me? Not for me directly, but for the community and area I live in. With each Sage they sell, they donate towards the National Alzheimer Association's Denver Chapter. This may not affect me DIRECTLY, but it does help people I know, or relatives of people I know. People have a loyalty to sports teams, why not a knife company? I applaud a company that realizes that they can give back to the community around them directly, and around the world, and still be successful.

Yep, agreed. Either the best, or the best for the money, that's where I go. Spyderco and Byrd often score high on both counts, and so I own a few. But being loyal to a brand would imply buying their stuff even if the competition would offer better stuff, or better value for money.
And that would make no sense at all.

Besides, it wouldn't even be good for a company. There wouldn't be any need to improve anymore, as people would just buy their products regardless. They would end up below par.
Nah. Keep 'm on their toes, is what I say. ;)

I've looked at many of the other companies out there, Benchmade, Kershaw, even Boker, and own a couple Benchmades, Buck and CRKT knives.

It usually always turns out that some aspect of the knife is "off". Maybe it's the blade steel or grind, handle shape, and price/value ratio. Always, I come back to Spyderco.

I'm not married to brand just because of a name. But until I see another company producing clean, functional designs, I'm not buying.

I only buy Spyderco. Not saying I wouldn't buy other manufacturers, but Spydercos attract me much more than any other brand these days.

I did go through this 'changing loyalties' phase as well, I used to hate the way Spydercos looked but now I think they're beautiful.

To be bluntly honest this forum is full of kiss ass Spyderco fans who think everything Sal touches is gold.
While they do make some good knives they also make some average ones.
I am not brand loyal. If I like something I buy it and if I don't like it then I won't.

95% of my folding knives are from Sal however when I see other designs that I like from other manufacturers even if I previously dislike the companies range I will still buy it example; CRKT Ripple.

I am a Spydie fanboy because Sal has created such a great product range. My loyalty is not unconditional and should Spydie falter in quality and innovation I will be the first to leave the ship. Regardless of my appreciation for them.

Spydie has a lot of kiss ass Spyderco fans for a reason!

me 2

for me it's RAT cutlery for fixed blades and spyderco for folders, but a couple of benchmades and kershaws catch my eye (and a CR Seb) and of course busse for fixed but way to much money :jerkit:

Hahaha!!! You're in the Spyderco forum, Sal's house...what'd you expect?

Anyway, with that said, I am a die-hard Spyderco fan and have over 30, mostly folders but a few fixed as well. I have probably sold half that many as well, so they are obviously not ALL for me. I am also a big fan of RAT Cutlery and Emerson for the same reasons I love Spyderco, but admittedly don't have nearly as many of those brands as I have Spydercos.

As has already been said, Spyderco is a company that has fantastic service, puts out a fantastic product with a ton of variety and innovation and cares about what it's fan-bas....err, customer-base thinks and wants.:D:thumbup:

Spyderco rocks!!

I've got over 40 Spyderco knives in my collection, which consists of folders mostly. I've acquired around 30 of them in just the past 2 years.
A lot of good companies out there, but NO COMPANY makes anything similar to the Spyderco knives. Their innovative steels, designs and locking mechanisms revolutionized the knife industry. They collaborate with some of the best knife makers out there, and constantly add new collaborators to ensure the "intrigue" is still there, even for fans who think they've "got all the Spyderco they need".

Overall, Spyderco is the only manufacturer except for RAT, that I would buy with my eyes shut.

I am not limited to any one brand, but I have developed a passion for Spydies again recently. It all started with the Terzuola slipit.

I've owned and carried a Police model for years. Use it for everything, EDC, outdoors, you name it. This year I decided to buy a new EDC knife and a new outdoor folder. I really had my mind set on Benchmades this time. I just wanted something different. Did alot of research, handled alot of knives and ended up with 2 Spydies again. I also bought my daughter her second Spydie and my wife her first for Christmas.

During all this my brothers found out what I was doing and they bought Spydies too. Now one of my brothers is about to buy his second Spydie in a month. He knew nothing about Spyderco before this.

All of this started as a quest for the best Benchmades. I really wanted a Benchmade. Damn Spyderco!
