go carefully! the older ones are solid and may be more brittle, the newer ones have cavities inside. if you open all the tools you can see where the 3 pins are inside, giving you a view as to where to work your flat tool that your using to "gently" pry the scales off. one pin-pop- the next pin-pop- then the last. it's pretty simple, just remember the liners are thin so a lot of pressure could bend them some, but generally it's pretty easy. good luck
