Chaparral FRN in-house at Spyderco!

The Chaparral FRN is in-house at Spyderco according to Sal. I am very excited about this. I wonder what color the scales are?
I'm pretty sure sal said a while back that the plan was to start with black, and then see how things went from there...

Hopefully XHP like the others. This is one I've been anxiously awaiting and will buy with a quickness.

u.w.

They are made in house in Golden, the way I read it the second time, interpreting Sal's shorthand. Of course, I could have read it right the first time and they are in house, meaning, the stock is there.

He said he had the first run in his pocket and had been using it and it was great.

The steel is XHP. Sal said previously he did not want to use black so we did a poll to see what color everyone liked. Gray and Blue were top choices. I do not remember the 3rd, 4th, etc. colors.

Yup, Sal said he did not want black. We have not gotten confirmation on what color yet.

I interpretted Sal's comment as him having a production sample in his possession, not that production was moved to Golden but it was a little confusing. I want one either way.

I am eager to see what the new pattern will be. With the Chap being a bit of a gents folder it will be nice to see what they came up with.

Ahhh... No black.

Maybe I'm remembering the convo about the wharnie Delica...?

Interested to find out what color was picked, for sure!

I will but one of these as soon as they are released.

Spyderco has done an outstanding job of relieving me of my money this year.

I'm hoping for a nice neutral color, maybe tan? XHP is definitely a good choice, wish they would make a regular production in that.

How does the Chap compare size wise to other common models?

Here's an old pic I have of the cf Chaparral with a few others:

UKPK, Native 5 lw, Calypso Jr, Chaparral.

The Chaparral is in the same size range of the Urban. The plus of the Chap in my opinion is how thin the blade stock is. It’s an incredible slicer.

Yes, that was the Delica Wharnie thread.

I've been looking forward to this one but already have a CF Chap (which is great). So I'll wait and see what color they chose before deciding if this is a must have for me.

Hmmm... knife is smaller than a Native 5 Lightweight, and a Manix 2 lightweight, but has steel liners and steel back spacer?
So this is not a "lightweight" Chaparral? Just a Chaparral with some very sweet looking FRN scales. I know, I know... the Chaparral is not a heavy knife to begin with - but - it could be lighter as a "lighweight", like the previously mentioned Native 5 & Manix 2 lightweights.
Don't get me wrong, I dig the look for sure, but was definitely hoping for maybe linerless or no steel back spacer - or both. An 'actual' lightweight, like the other two. All that said - I dig it, and one will likely be in my pocket (as well as one in the drawer as a 'spare') very shortly after they are available...

Agreed !
I've never bought one but have oggled the specs many times.
I've planned to get one of the various textured Ti versioms but serious $ and there was always some other dambed knife with "super-er steel" callimg to me.

After all that I am quite happy with XHP
Will still probably one day get a textured Ti or a carbon fiber Chaparral.

I was hoping for linerless, but I got everything else I wanted in this knife, I believe. It is a Chaparral, it is cheaper, it is a back lock, it is cheaper, it is frn, it is cheaper, it is gray in color, and it is cheaper.
