Chaparral FRN in-house at Spyderco!

Hmm, not sure on the size but excited about FRN, XHP and the color...how much smaller than the Native 5 is it?

It is a lot smaller, though the blade length is not much shorter, and it is a whole lot thinner. I mean, it is less than half of the thickness of a LW N5. It is a perfect execution of a daily carry knife.

If they have the weight right on BHQ, it is only 2oz. That is very light.

So what are they calling the grip pattern? I say chain link, and I like it. It kind of looks like the pattern on the frn Byrd knives but with a hole in each raised oval.

It’s great for Spyderco to give us options, but what do you win with the FRN version over the much prettier CF one except to save a few bucks?

The CF suits the gentleman/office folder vibe much better me thinks.

The price is a big thing and it suits EDC a lot better, IMO. But, I'm a fan of thin slicey blade, not that the delica is a slouch there. Options. I personally prefere the xhp over vg-10 of the similarly priced delica. The chap fits a nice middle ground between the dragonfly and delica. I also much prefer the choil on the chap over the choil-less delica.

Having said that, I EDC the native and ended up selling my chaparral. It was too pretty for me to go after tape and cardboard when I had other options that looked the part even though I know it could handle it fine. Glue residue just makes a nice knife look worse than an already rugged looking knife. I would prefer the FRN model over the CF model. I carry traditional slippies for office/dressy carry.

How will the lock compare to Delica versus Native 5 LW?

Based on the CF model, it's pretty thin but amount you need to push down is very similar. I found it slightly uncomfortable if I kept opening and closing it as I tend to open and close my knives a lot as a fidget device. I think the spring is equally stiff.

My Endura 4 lock has a little play but my Native 5 LW is like a bank vault. I originally thought I wanted a Delica, now tossed between this new Chaparral or maybe waiting for the Lil Native with compression lock.

Wow! I never paid much attention to the Chap, but this model is definitely calling my name!

Spyderco restored my faith in FRN after I got my Jazzz Delica, so I know this little guy will be a big winner!

I like lw frn Spydercos. I m currently carrying a lw Manix 2 with a cts-xhp blade. No liners and it seems to be very strong.

Really like how the new scale pattern feels; first 3 folks in line for the Seconds sale got different models and one of them got this...

I am waiting for it to come into stock at KW and then I will get one or two.
