Recommendation? Chaparral FRN or Dragonfly 2 FRN

Personally Id vote the Chaparral mostly because I do prefer a fuller grip myself but you can't go wrong with either really. It might also be worth looking for and considering the Lil' Native it is right between the two in size specs from what I can see as well it will be available with the Compression Lock or Back Lock in 2018.

The Lil' Native is already out, I saw one on the Exchange. I considered it as a replacement for my DF but when I saw the pics I decided against it. The only jimping for the thumb is in the liners, and it's very short. No jimping in the choil(from what I could tell) and it just seemed a little awkward.

The Lil Native isn't new but from what I understand they either stopped producing it and will be producing it again in 2018 or at least the lock type option is new don't know if it originally was Lockback or Compression. It could also be some combination of those things too but it is listed as "new" in the 2018 Spyderco Catalog.

The df2 is perfect for dropping in the bottom of your pocket and forgetting about it. I’ve never used the clip on it.

Don't forget the Lil Native is a lot heavier. I have a Dfly and love it, but want all three eventually.

Not trying to further advocate the Lil Native over either the other two but the weight I see listed is 2.5oz which is still plenty light in my book. The weights I see on the others are as low as 1.2oz and as high as 2oz so not a big weight change unless your looking by percentage change.

You're right, for some reason I thought it was 3 oz. You're also right that the actual difference isn't much but percentage wise it is still double the Dfly. Whether it matters or not is up for debate, and it likely doesn't. It's just another one of those things we probably figure into buying decisions.

The Lil Native is a brand new model. The first version just hit the market a week or so ago.

If you want the weight difference to be closer between the two - as in both under two ounces - you could always make the one called "light weight" a bit more "light weight" without hurting a thing in the process...

u.w.

I've owned several Dragonfly's and think they're great but they've always been a secondary knife for me. If I were only going to carry one it would be the Chap. I also like the FRN version. CTSXHP steel also pulls me towards the Chap.

The Chap’s a better slicer.

The D-Fly is half the weight.

The Lil guy is the strongest build and thickest blade.
The FFG should keep the Lil as a good slicer just not the best of the 3 and the weight is still so low on all 3 that it isn't enough to care. The blade thickness would effect cutting but I don't think it is thick enough to be a concern and if slicing is the goal I believe the FFG will provide that. I am just saying based on my needs/wants in this group/category I would find the Lil to be my best choice for a small EDC.
