Chaparral Preview/Review

Excellent review, Deacon!

And it looks like Sal was thinking of you the entire time with the non-dented midlock.

It looks to be about the same size as the DragonFly2.
I would appreciate if you would do a comparison photo with the DragonFly2 (if you have one).

The DF2 and Delica4 are on my short list for an EDC knife, but the Chapparal is very tempting. Unfortunately the Chapparal is about 2x the price of the DragonFly2, and that might be enough to make it not affordable (at least right now).

Don't have a D'fly 2, but since its the same size as the original Dragonfly, this may give you an idea of the Chaparral's relative size...

Each has it's good points, neither will appeal to everyone. As you noted, the D'fly is less expensive, although probably not half as expensive unless you opt for the FRN version. It's also more compact and lighter. Chaparral gives you a thinner blade that's half an inch longer and has a larger Spyderhole, plus a more hand filling handle. Given my love for thin blades and my aversion to peel ply G-10, especially foliage green G-10, it's an easy choice for me.

Thank you for the DF / Chapparal comparison photo.

Yes I was considering the DF2 with a basic FRN grip.

Awesome review Deacon...........

I have the Sage 1 and carry it daily, with no real complaints about it although it would be perfect if the width wasn't as pronounced, my hand tends to rub against when going to retrieve keys and such.. (width from top of blade to back of scale/spine when closed)

this knife appears a tad smaller in the width department, although I consider the Sage along with the Delica one of the best edc knives for me, I may have to reconsider and pick one of these up..

thanks for the review:)

I gotta say, I'm really excited about this knife. Spyderco seems to have that perfect amount of decomissioned knives as well as new knives out there on the horizon to keep me constantly looking stuff up on the net about them.

I think Sal and Eric have figured out the right pace of innovation to keep all of us Spyderholics hooked - like the steel junkies we are.

I agree. I have a Cat and a Sage II and like both, but I think the size of the chaparral is going to be just right for me.

Awsome update on the,, great,, Chaparral, I can see this one in my pocket .Any chance you may get to do the same with the new Techno ?? I`d really like a review on it also .

I received an update over on the Factory Forums that this will be arriving at your authorized Spyderco dealers in July.

Is this one out yet?
i had a sage but the handle was a little too big for me. this one seems perfect!
i definetely would prefer a liner or framelock instead of the backlock but i heard, as same as the sage series, that spyderco will release different models with different locks and handle materials!
is this true?
thanks
