Chape Redesign?

The option of removing the brass chape from the scabbard has been mentioned to prevent its loss on excursions and its poking you or others with the sharp end.

Another possibility is for the BirGhorka kamis to make the chape with a rounded tip rather than a sharp point prior to affixing it to the scabbard.

Opinions?

Uncle Bill, would it be difficult to have the kamis try to do blunt chapes? Any historical evidence that khukuri scabbards have had blunt chapes?

The only suggestion I have is to change to a leather chape with rounded profile- the kamis willing of course.

A Sarki Shop Sisco scabbard sent "sans sharp" seems somewhat subltly suitable sarki 'suasion scenario. So sarkis see? Some succinct suggestions?

Ahh, for the good old days when we used to think of experimenting with drugs.

Now we HAVE to take them.

Here are 4 chapes from military scabbards showing the front and stapled attchment on the back. From the top they are WW II, WW I, WW II and WW I. Guess the military thought round was better, but there are also many WW II pieces that have a sharp pointed chape. Also all military pieces post 1947 had a pointed chape, but many had canvas/web covers over the entire scabbard that took the sharpness away.

Now If only the kamis and sarkis could be convinced to do that I think it would be a great compromise.

Uncle,
Knowing how hard it is to convey your wishes thousands of miles (and many years of tradition) I doubt the sarkis and kamis will find the rounded chape to their liking. But it's worth a try and would be a nice option.
