Hi, I was wondering if there would be an option to add a chape to the traditional daap. I had bought a Heritage knives Khukuri a while back and really like the decorated chape.

I understand you might not do this in-house, but is this something you'd be willing to outsource for a fee? I don't mean the exact same design as HK, but perhaps something from an antique. I'm contemplating getting a Mutiny with Salyani sheath with a fancier chape.

I thought I should post this here, just in case others might have the same question.

Hey there Chandra- we can include a chape/kothi if you would like- it will just need to be added through semi custom processes.

The reason we do not include them on more blades is that there aren't any great long term and durable options for how to attach to the sheath. Small pins can rust and they also form a weak point in the leather from where tears can form and where water can get in and cause rot and other issues. Just gluing it straight on avoids this but metal to leather bonds are difficult. The leather can swell and shrink in humidity in ways that the glue will not. In such a case you can have it the glued portion peel off over time and your chape drop off wihtout you noticing while walking around at some point in future- not a good outcome.

We can likely source a similar chape as pictured at top locally or alternatively our new smith keshu is a talented engraver and can likely do something beautiful for you :)
