Charcoal Grill Help Needed

55 gal drums are ok to use as long as they did not store combustibles or toxic chemicals in them.

Also, if you really want to wow the guests when they come over to grill with you, try starting your grill with fritos instead of paper or firestarter logs. Nobody will believe you can get it started until you do it in front of them. Just toss on a moderate amount of chips and cover them with charcoal, then light them up. Be sure not to cover them too much or you will smother the flames. This trick is also very good for starting wood fires on a campout when it's a bit damp outside! Really impresses even the experienced Boy Scouts! LOL

I've already mentioned smoked eggs and Yvsa gave us the BBQ Catfish recipe, anyone else have some "different" or unusual grilled food items to share? I find it great to try new grilled foods.

It's all that trans-fat burning. Better than napalm. Just don't eat any. :D

Yeah but I wouldn't use anything except a brand new drum or one that had been used for edible substances like cooking oil or such.
Several years ago a fellow took home what looked like a brand new 55 gallon barrel home from work and made himself a nice smoker out of it. Even though the drum was apparently perfectly clean he scrubbed it out several times to insure its cleanliness.
The big weekend came when he fired the brand new grill up and he cooked dinner outside for his immediate family, thank the Gods they didn't have anyone over to share the goodies with them as the whole family was found dead.
What was figured out was that the drum had contained a chemical that was absolutely deadly to life in the smallest amounts.
And even though he had scrubbed the drum out all those times the soap and water couldn't penetrate the seams where the drum was assembled.
When he built the fire the steel expanded and the seams opened up enough to release the deadly chemical that penetrated the food making it deadly.:(

Even Bill's free BBQer could be deadly or at least enough to make people very sick if all the plating wasn't burned off before it was cooked on depending on what the plating is.
Give me an old rusty steel grill anytime or even one that has never been cleaned and is loaded with past char from years of cooking.

Skunkwerks, is that a CharGriller Smokin Pro you have there? That's just like the one we have! :D
The original finish is powder coating but after a few hot fires and setting out in the weather it goes bad pretty quick.
We bought some of that High Heat Tolerant Engine Paint and sprayed ours and it looks like new again.
You can't buy a better grill for less than $200.00 IMO and especially one with cast iron grates!!!!  :D
