I really tried to avoid posting this, but I cannot find a supplier of coal online. I have a coal forge that I want to start using but have not a clue where to obtain coal from. I live in Northern California. Please give me any suggestions. Thank you.

Try Uncle Al at Riverside Machine...or Centaur Forge....or do a search for
blacksmithing coal.

Good charcoal works as well or better, but burns up alot faster.

Locally (Maine) I was able to find coal from the animal feeds and needs type stores. They sell it for use in coal burning furnaces and is about 8 bucks for a 50 pound bag. I have not used it but know where to get it when I need some.

I'd also try to track down local hardwood charcoal. Your state may (?) even have restrictions on the use of coal.

Good luck with it, Craig

walmart sells wood charcoal. Make sure you get natural charcoal and not the briquettes. I have used it and works well.

Check or a local ABANA chapter, they can usually put you on to a good source for forging coal.
