I just picked one up at a super price of $73.00 and couldn't be happier. I really like the tightness of the tool as compared to the Wave I had. Leatherman has really upped the ante with these new tools. I would like to be able to tighten up the bolt at the pivot of the plain edge clip point blade as it does a little wobble in it but I have never been able to find the correct bits to do so. Anyone know where/if these bits are available? Another thing I really like is the bit carrier and how it slides in at the back of the sheath. This is just a neat tool and I'll sure be able to find a lot of use for it!! Any help on the correct bit would be appreciated. :D :D :D

I bought the proper 6 lobed security bit at Lowe's for 4 bucks. It's a set of 6 bits by BOSCH. The Charge uses the T10 bit. Please note that this will not fit the "old" stlye LM tools that use a 5 lobe bit.

man,i dun own the charge or new wave yet,but i hope to know how many security bits are used in the new wave?and is it possible to dissolve the whole tool with the bit u mentioned?

On the Charge Ti there are only 4 screws that will require the bit. I imagine the Wave is the same. As far as dissolving the tool goes, I don't know......................maybe some full strength hydrochloric acid??? ;) :D

i mean to disassemble the tool...possible?

I was joking ckl :D As far as taking it apart, I think it only has 4 screws but even then I don't think you can fully disassemble it. Btw, I went to Lowes and as luck would have it, they were out of the 6 piece security torx bits by Bosch! They have a 1/2 dozen coming in this week though. I went to Ace Hardware and they had a big set of these with 13 different bits, or you could buy a few of the more common ones seperately. They had a #10 and so I got it, but it seemed to be too large to fit into the hole, and upon further inspection I have screws with the 5 lobe points. I assumed that the newer tools would have the newer screws, but not on mine! Is there a bit?

That sucks! I originally bought the Bosch set in hope that it would fit the fasteners on my old wave and sideclip, but since they were 5 lobe...no dice. I only notice that the fasteners on my Charge were 6 lobed after reading it somewhere. I don't know of a source for the 5 lobed bits.

I have a new Wave sitting here on my desk and it has the five-star security torx nuts (bolts?) on the sides. Are the Charges the only new Leatherman tool with the six-star security torx nuts? As luck would have it I don't have either of my Charges with me today in my office. Just curious. If anyone could shed any light on this I'd appreciate it. :)

Hello,

My charges all have 5 lobe (three different tools). I suspect (but don't know for sure) that Leatherman uses both depending upon availability.

That's good to know as I was thinking mine was the only 5 lobed Charge Ti around. Now, back to the question, who makes the bit for this and where do you get it? :D :D :D

Five pointed security bits which fit the old Wave and some of the new Wave and Charge models can be purchased (without qualification/signatures/pledge of first-born offspring etc) from snapon's webstore. Go to buy1.snapon.com and search for part number TTXR10TPE2

Doh. Sorry about that. You might have to go to ebay and pay an arm and a leg for the bits then...

I went to www.snapon.com and put the part number in the search box at the top and it came back with a $12.00 cost and a button to order with. I didn't order it, but did you, and it come back as not in stock?
