Here is a large chopper I just finished! I wanted something that was kind of a fallout/fantasy mix with some neo-tribal hints and this beast was born. When a finished grinding the blade I brought it in from the shop and by seven-year-old named it "Scythis".
Forged from 3/16" thick 80CRV2 to a slight distal taper. Forge texturing left on the flats of the blade. The blade was force aged and pitted to add to the post-apocalyptic look and feel. The twisted integral guard fits the hand comfortably and has room for when wearing a glove. Large Choil fits the first finger nicely.
I use an Evenheat oven for my heat treating. For my 80CRV2 heat treat I thermal cycle to reduce grain size and even out alloying components. I soak my 80CRV2 for 12 minutes to fully distribute carbides. Fast oil quench and three tempers bring the blade to 59-60 HRC.
Super easy to sharpen and holds an edge for quite some time! This steel is also really tough and resilient, one of my favorites for large blades.
Dimensions:
13 7/8" Overall
8" Cutting Edge
2.5" wide at the widest point
3/16" thick at the widest point
Really dark Arizona Desert Ironwood handle scales with 3/16" brass pins.
Comes with a handmade 8 oz leather sheath with a ring between the sheath and belt loop.
$550 Shipped insured in the US. Paypal only.
Thanks for taking a look!
