Charles L. Weiss - Phoenix - A look at some of his knives

Definetely some fantastic work for sure. I have never seen his work in person, only magazines, but what i have seen I have greatly admired. Some miniatures that he crafted won awards at Blade Show West a few years back and the were unbelivable!

Mike, I'm not surprised Charlie is well know to you and those who have been in the industry for YEARS, however though his work is magnificent, there's not much of it out there. Or at least where it can be viewed/enjoyed.
I bet if you asked 100 folks at random at knife shows if they knew who Charlie Weiss was, I doubt if you would consistenly find 15 that could truthfully say they did. In other words, he's not known as an icon of knifemaking though his work may indicate he should be.

You can see his work on a lot of dealers sites. Classic Guns and Knives come to mind. Go ahead and cross the Isle from the ABS Tables, and you will find a LOT of people, both makers and collectors that know his work. He is Well known. I mean, the guy has been around, and making fantastic pieces for decades. You guys really do have to look around the rest of the room every once in a while! Haa!!! You'll be amazed at what is out there.

Lots of pic's of his work in past Knife Digest books as well. Study, Study, Study.

Mike, I go to 3-5 shows a year and cover the entire floor at each. Perhaps you should open your eyes. ;) I appreciate and enjoy stock removal knives. You seem to be the one that has a problem with forged.

I had a fighter by Charlie that came from the Joe Drouin collection. 1 of 2, the other is in the Smithsonian. ANY high level, long-time collector is very familiar with Charlie. Ask someone like Don Guild, Walter Hoffman, Ellis, long time dealers like Dave Harvey, Grazyna Shaw, etc....if they know who Charlie Weiss is and they'll know that you haven't been around the knife world for very long.

I *thought* I had more than three photos, but that speaks of how rare (sought-after?) his work is.

Nice.

Charlie and I used to hang out quite a bit when I lived in Tempe. We even did some collaborations a long time ago. I made the damascus steel and forged the blades, he did the rest. I wish I has pics of some of those, but we're talking 20 years ago or so.

Anyway, I didn't see a link to his website skimming this thread so here it is, just in case:

Anyone who has read Points of Interest or the Knives Annual series knows exactly who Charles Weiss is. For years he was considered one of the top knifemakers in the world.

Exactly Right! Like I said. Study,Study, Study. The shows aren't the end all of Knife collecting! Nor is blade forums. Far from it.
