Charles May Firemaker

that thing is pretty cool..... i was looking at it a while back.... i need to get one of charles knives....:D

Yeah I really liked that one but the price is super steep:thumbup:

The one I have of his is really flawless though and didn't cost an arm and a leg:thumbup:

I didn't even notice the price before, whoa! But yeah it is a beautiful knife and I like innovative stuff like the ferro rod in the butt.

I'm not positive, but to me it looks like maybe there is hole in the ferro rod and the thong passes through the lanyard hole and the rod holding it in place. I'm only going by the way it looks in the pic though.

Pretty cool looking. It looks to me like the firesteel is simply held in place by the lanyard. Does any know that for sure. It's a great idea. I just wouldn't want it rattling around.

One of those "why didn't I think of that" type things.

Sweet idea but if I spent $500 on a knife like that I would be scared to use it. Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to incorporate into a knife.

I've been looking at the OSK for a while now but cant justify the want/need for it.

I love mine from him. Have posted these before but just figured a good thread needs a couple pics:thumbup:;)

There is a thread about this knife in the custom knife subforum.

Darn if I don't know how to make a link to it though...

I actually ended up with the #1 Prototype Firemaker from Charlie. I have a "few" of his knives and this one is done to the same high standards of quality as all the rest of his work. The Ferro Rod is NOT threaded, although it is grooved to help grasp it when you are pulling it out of the cavity inside the knife. There is actually a little bumper that the rod rests up against with the tension of the wrist thong holding it in place.

Raindrop,

Thanks for the info but the fact that you posted it, and admit to owning a "few" more yet without any pics may constitute cruel and unusual punishment;):D

Hollowdweller,

Since I am primarily a "buyer" and not a seller I don't have anything set up with a web hosting service for the pictures. Couple that with the artistic talents of lump of coal and you can understand why there aren't any pictures. I'll have to see if I can do something to rectify the situation ;)

Dam nice knife and firestarter! I would be all over this one but for the price:(, Maybe soon though.

They look great and one of Charles' knives is on my short list for this year:D

Shamless plug for customs here...

There is nothing like owning/using/holding/appreciating a handcrafted knife. Don't get me wrong, I like production pieces, I have a helluva lot of them...but customs are in a whole other ball park. A pure joy to use is an understatement. Sometimes the prices are up there, but there is a difference.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I am liking the looks of the Buckeye and think I will try it with a scandi grind???? We'll see

Man..that Skifa Scandi is a MUST HAVE!!! I love my Big hand Scandi, but that would be my next choice.

If you want to take some pics and email them to me I'd host them on my acct:thumbup:

I own a firemaker. its in the gallery here on bladeforums. The name of the tread is fire in the hole.
The "firemaker is a great knife. Its well balanced, and as all Charlie May knves......Extremly well made. I own several of his knives. My EDc is a scandi Trace. I carry it in my back pocket everyday.
My oldest son and I are going backpacking in a few weeks and I can't wait to use my new Firemaker!
