I think his knives are the epitome of beautiful cutlery. Sadly, however, beyond my current means, not to mention I would go nuts waiting for it. :o

I really love his designs and his workmanship is really good.

As previously mentioned though his scandis are handicapped by the fact that he makes the scales very thin and he does not round or contour the scales.

Also while I love the D2 steel he uses as far as stain resistance I have had to be really careful sharpening them because the D2 seems really prone to chip when used in the scandi grind and stropped out fairly thin. This probably wouldn't be a problem in his regular grinds.

They do look nice but $225 for a little bird and trout knife is not affordable by my wallet....if ya got the money though, go for it !

He recently upped the prices on most of his stuff. I think one of the knives I had bought in the past went up $50 bucks.

Jnyiri - your Big Hand Scandi looks like what I expect mine will that I have on order.

i dont have one,,but soon i will,,,hear nothing but great things about his knives and work,,,they are beautys,,

He makes excellent, excellent knives!! I LOVE mine.

So after reading T.K.C.s posts about his knives, I called Charlie to order one of his FireAnts. He is supper accommodating. Unfortunately, there's a 16 month wait.

I own three of Charlie's knives, and luckily, I got in on two of them (Stump and Fire Ant) a couple of years ago when his prices were a bit lower than they are now. For most of his blades, I think he's right in line with pricing for what you're getting--most of them.

Charlie does a superb job with his grinds and everything is finished off beautifully. Match his work up with some of his hardwood offerings, and you've got a real keeper whether you're collecting or using.

I was getting ready to buy an OSK, but when I saw that it was $300, I backed off on it. I think that price is a little out of whack, and maybe the prices on the small ones like the Fire Ant and Bird and Trout. But, most of the others are where they should be with what you're getting. But, either way, Charlie's getting plenty of business and he's got a good waiting list, so there's a lot of people that see the value of his knives. I've really enjoyed mine over the past couple of years. I turned loose a Scandi model I just didn't like and picked up another knife, second-hand, made by Charlie to replace it.

Also, the sheaths that Charlie sends out with each knife are great quality sheaths. So, you're not going to have the extra expense of getting a better-than-production sheath made. There's some value in that aspect.

Just for beauty and function, pick the right one for your needs, and I think you'll love it.

I don't own one...yet...I don't think I've heard an unkind word about them. I've had some e-mail conversations with him and found him to be quite friendly and helpful.

I hve a big woods model in S30V steel. It is one of the best looking and practical knives I own.

Mr. May is a terrific guy. He is great to talk to on the phone. I had a Bob White, but I gave it to my Mom. Here are my May knives:
