Charlie Mike knife

What he didn't tell you was I had to make this knife 3 times! I got a bunk order of A2 from NJSB that cracked every buckin time. I learned my lesson and ordered some A2 from AKS and it went off without a hitch.

Yeah,...that's frustrating for sure. It's bad enough when I mess up something (occasionally! :)), but when you have lots of time and mental energy invested also and find the problem to be defective material,....well,...

....honestly Mike,...did the cast offs become "throwing knives" in the rough? ;)

Throwing knives... Target was the trash can!

In my line of work which is industrial maintenance and repair, often it seems we have to do the repair twice or at least have to re-do a few steps. It is part and parcel of the process so I tend to shrug it off and get on with it. Sometimes we have bad materials / parts / info, so it's not like we always F it up when this happens.

....and don't forget that even IF everything seems to be going OK,....there is always the dreaded "Murphy's Law" lurking! ("Anything that can go wrong will go wrong")

Perfect example,...about 25-30 years ago when I worked as a Bench Jeweler and Diamond Setter, I had just spent a few hours fabricating a mounting, setting, and sizing a tricky natural Emerald into a ladies ring. The Emerald was a $900 stone back then, store cost, but probably triple that today.

Emerald's are very pressure and heat sensitive, basically a very fragile stone that even when wearing you have to be exceptionally careful! They can often crack when setting, so you have to go really slow and still cross your fingers....

I finished polishing and cleaning up the ring, and as I was wiping it dry with a towel in my hands it, the ring slipped and went to the floor. Now the floor was carpeted, so probably would have been OK,...IF the ring hadn't flipped in the air so that the stone landed directly on the ONE area dangerous to the stone,... the 1/4" wide top of the steel bolt connecting the bottom brace my Jeweler's workbench to the upright legs!

....Yep,...that SOB Murphy and his friggin LAW! Urgh.... :(
