OK so here goes. I'm giving you a taste of one beauty of a knife. Comfortable in the hand, easy on both the eyes AND the wallet.
I saw one for sale months ago, but had zero dinero. Contacted Mark of Charlie Ridge Knives and asked for one to be made. He added me to his list and the fun began. I asked for the grind to come closer to the handle for those close-in cuts and for the handle to be stag of some sort. Nothing too fancy for this guy! I wanted a working man's knife, not a showpiece. He is an excellent communicator, getting back to you within a day usually. Very happy to accomodate any and all of your customizations. Give him your business and you will be delighted with the results.
Handle is Elk, sheath is very heavy duty leather with enough reveal to grab the handle with finger and thumb, yet not so much that I will have to worry about it popping out.
Gave it some food prep duty the last few days. Copied a recent thread and made some salsa, here's the before pic. Sorry, no after pic! Made sandwiches today-it spreads mayo like a dream. Cuts like one too.
I have not batonned with this knife, not yet. I know that some consider nessies to be a bit silly looking and not entirely suited for bushcraft work, but I respectfully disagree. If this knife was the only I had outdoors, I think I would be just fine. It carves well, shaves fuzz sticks, is nimble in the hand, and has enough point to make holes-just takes a bit longer. I sharpened a stick to a point, then used the knife's spine to drive the stick into the ground without difficulty. The nicely squared off spine gives great sparks off a steel too!
Here are some pics from today's hike:
With my new survival pouch-these are made and sold by BOOMSTICK and Mountain Mike. A nice piece of kit.
I did bring a friend along today. A Landi with handle and sheath customized by ilbruche. Cuts like a laser!
