As I can't imagine the folks here not knowing already how good Matt is I'll keep this one as short as I can...

I commissioned another CMFTW somewhere around 9/21, like last time an adaptation of an existing design of his. He communicated promptly and got me a drawing to approve within a day, we discussed intended use and steels and handle material and price, hashed the details out and I was told 3-4 weeks. Less than 4 weeks later I have been carrying the knife several days already (and I read he doubled his workload recently too!).

I made a slight overpayment when I sent funds at 7am (east coast time, remember he's on the west coast) and emailed him and he had the refund issued before my bank even noticed (does the guy sleep?!)

And the knife, what can I even say about the knife that isn't already scribed into stone... Dudes a freaking monster on the grinder!

I will continue to commission customs from Matt until he's so famous I can't afford his work anymore.

Obligatory info on this knife
~4.75" (I haven't actually measured, I simply requested the straight portion of the blade be 4", blade and total length could come to whatever was necessary).
Nitro V, hardened to 60-61 w/ cryo, made to be an extremely hard use EDC netting the best possible combo of wear resistance vs. toughness while being nearly stain proof.
Black micarta (over OD G10 liners)
Slightly proud tang so when I use it as a hammer I don't mar the handles.

Thank you so much Cereal for posting this glowing feedback. I also asked Charlie to make me a no nonsense work blade. He used the same design as yours but hardened it to around 59-60 with a right hand chisel grind and a bead blast finish. His turn around time was around two weeks with a lot of back and forth communications. The blade I was sent is great! Very sharp and exactly as I had asked for. Although he does not do v grinds at least he puts the chisel on the "right" side. Thanks Matt it was a real pleasur to deal with you!

yep Matt is on the top of the pillar of moving fast, doing what he says, and telling it like it is. good man. made me one recently...worth every dollar and then some. not sure why i waited so many years before getting one made. hes an example of the best in this industry.

I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time, very rare for me. Nonetheless my fortune landed me a CMFTW Tanto. Mike told me 2 weeks, had it ready to ship in one week. He communicated, provided photos of progress, and turned out to be a hell of a nice guy, who makes amazing knives.
One, if not my favorite knife to date...
