I’m a collector of Chaves knives….have been for many years. Never had the need for customer service up until now. Situation is that I broke the skeleton clip on one of my 229’s. My fault….contacted Chaves Customer Service to purchase a replacement clip. Received an almost immediate response stating that they don’t have any clips and maybe I should contact Reate. Well, I contacted Reate and receive zero response. So sadly, the purpose of this post is simply to alert current or prospective Chivas owners that you’re “on your own” should a situation arise such as mine. Guess I’m just used to companies that stand behind their products.

Is it a clip with visible screws? If so, I'm sure you will find someone willing to sell you their skull clip as every knife with visible clip screws comes with a second non-skull clip that many prefer. If not, perhaps that clip will still fit the older 229?

Hmmmm…… I have ALOT of Chaves knives. I’ve never had anything but good to say about Ramon and Lorrie and the whole group. I’m actually disappointed to read this. I have NOT needed the customer service but I’m friends with them and talk frequently via their official FB page. I suppose I’d message Ramon himself and see if he could pull some strings with Reate or come up with a new clip for you. You might not be as comfortable doing that but I would really advise you to post over there and ask nicely if anyone could help. Good luck.

Skull clip, visible screws, black. Knife is current year.
I got a skull clip that I will send you brother. I got a black Timascus made for this one so I have the original that you can have. Sorry to hear of the shitty service. Pm me your address.IMG_20240730_224848670.jpgIMG_20240730_225008321.jpg

Hahaha I can steer you in the right direction for a new one 😜! My boy James with IMSS made this one for me, along with a few more for my Evo's

It is great that the community has responded so well! What is not great is Chaves's customer service. I do not do business with businesses that will not support their customers and products.

Sorry folks, just got to check in on my orig. post. Today was yard mowing day (3/4 acre, lots of trees, occasional snakes!) so I missed out Forum-wise. Just to clarify: if anyone happens to have a black Skull Clip (or a compatible color for a black 229) I’d be happy to purchase it since I’m SOL with Chaves. If not, I’ll just use the “wuss clip” and move on.😁

(However, I did post a WTB note in the proper Exchange section.)

If you get a replacement clip and you want the clip to be black, we can anodize the clip black for you. It's just a standard electrical anodizing method using the manganese sulfate solution we've refined. The black is not permanent (it will wear the same way as any other color anodizing) but can be refinished easily as necessary. We could put a base color under the black layer (bronze, blue, etc) and that color will be revealed as the black layer wears away from handling/use.

Perfect. Once I receive it I will get in touch. It’ll be better than new!
I’ll PM you once it’s in hand.
