Just thought I'd pass this along... a good source of cheap layered spacers is the plastic material used in making nametags. Any shop that makes those nametags usually has a supply of different colors on hand and wll usually sell pieces at a reasonable cost. The stuff looks really good too.

I have been eyeing my son's legos for spacers. The big ones for toddlers are large enough to cut a few pieces out of. They are fairly impact resistant and come in quite a few colors.

If you can find alum. road signs at scrap
yards they make excellent spacers - easy to file work on and shine up like the best nickel.

Don't walk in tradition just because it feels good!!!!!

The plastic on old 3.5" floppy computer disks might make good spacer material. It looks hard and it comes in many colors.

I was also looking at the old 5" floppy disks that I no longer use. The outer black plastic material is very tough and looks like it might make good thin spacers.

I plan to try both of these materials.

While I was cutting apart an old disk I discovered that the cloth inside those old 5" floppy disks makes a fantastic eye glasses cleaner. Try it!

Try bowling balls! The colored ones look great. A yellow one looks like amber. You can get them at yard sales and flea markets for about a buck. One ball goes a long way.
