I know what you're thinking. What can you get worth anything for under 20 bucks.

The Kershaw Asset I conceal carry and like to keep a less than lethal option for situation where deadly force might be justified but one MAY get away with less than lethal if situation assessment allows. So I've had all kinds of knives ive tried and the kershaw asset does everything I need it to .

Steel 8cr13MoV chinese budget steel ? yes . But I think the characteristics of this steel are actually better suited for defensive purposes . HighER carbon content , is a softer steel which I like in defensive blade because it will take a wicked edge . Though it wont hold that edge that well I really dont need it to for my philosophy of use for this knife. I carry a separate blade for utility purposes .

Purchase while being a smaller profile grade you still can get a positive purchase on this knife. Handles are glass filled nylon and have some strange looking but effective texturing that allows for a positive purchase wet or dry .

Blade shape ? I lurrrrrrve persian style blades for defensive carry . it makes for a great slasher

Weight extremely light because of the persian style blade there isnt much to this knife so its light doesnt take up much space

Deployment. Utilizes kershaw's speed safe deployment system . Now on a sub 20$ knife I was wondering how tight and fast deployment would remain as new . And after 100's of deployments it's just as tight and quick as when I got it . Maybe a tad faster now since its broken in . So if you are using your other arm to shield your strong side deployment of this knife is lightening fast .

pocket clip and be placed on one side only but either north or south facing so thats a plus.

I think you get a lot of knife for what it costs.

Cons : soft steel dulls easily . However again because of the purpose of this knife you really dont kneed to worry about that. Now if you will carry for utility purposes expect to sharpen this thing every time you cut cardboard

If you have a favorite budget defensive carry knife feel free to post ITT

I like to carry a cheap paring knife from Target that comes with a blade cover/sheath, costs a couple bucks and I dont care if it gets lost/stolen/confiscated. I wish it was a more glamorous option, but I haven't found anything that works better. And before someone says it, I have plenty of higher end knives, but I don't like carrying them if I think I might have to dump em somewhere :) just my .02c

A fixed blade cause you must be in a war area cause no folder is going to help you. If your not in a war area hang either a big fixed blade or a machete off your belt and you should be good.

lol Well with the feminization of america some of the citizens more easily prone to fear might take issue with you carrying a machete or bowie on your hip. lol Plus a good flipper will definitely be more maneuverable in close quarters situation. Thanks for posting though ;)

CRKT Folts Minimalist Whancliffe or a pencil

I actually have one of those. The only problem I have with it is the sheath . The Bowie version < which is the one I own > is shipped with the tanto sheath < as per mine and others i've read on various forums > And the bowie blade rubs on the kydex and dulls the crap out of it :/

The knife itself is awesome.

In all seriousness...Grocery store steak knife. You can get a set for under 20 bucks, they are pointy for jabbing, serrated for slashing/tearing, and if they are accidently dropped into a sewer, it doesn't hurt. They are among the preferred choices of folks who, how should I put it....use self-offense knives professionally.

singularity's screwdriver is also a good choice, as is an icepick.

Problem with steak knives , pearing knives are not many make sheaths for them and I dont think I'd want a uncovered steak knife in my pocket

Make one. The heavy stock from a pad of paper, duct tape...boom. Sheath. If you are looking for cheap hurt you don't need a pretty sheath.

I have been fortunate enough not to encounter any mall ninjas or zombies in my day to day life so a defensive blade has not been needed. However if I was in that situation, a chainsaw may work best. Weld a few blades to the side of it for when you run out of gas.

maybe one of these would be easier to conceal:

pull one off your ear or your girlfriends ear, big enough to stab someone in the eye

Well I live houses outside the southeast's largest trailer park and unfortunately everyone once in a blue moon you run into the wrong crowd. That being said Ive only ran into 2 incidents in my time here. but both involved guns : / I wont get into that though . BUT I'd rather have it and not need it than other way around.

Mall ninjas are generally harmless. They just feel the need to be ready to face a battalion of spetsnaz on the way to walmart xD

Believe it or not I dig those earings but im a dude so I dont think theyd be for me . And I see no locking mechanism on them so that right there would rule them out .

But I just ordered a used Spiderco dragonfly 2 in near mint shape for 15$ shipped ( not bad for g10 steel eh ?? ) from a knife reviewer im subbed to on youtube so I got the micro blade covered

wow that was a steal for $15.

A can of mace may do you much better than trying to stab someone in a potential fight.

Steak knives, and they are a preferred weapon for some. Go to the restaurant eat your steak and have your knife too. A good cheap Walmart Buck 110 will serve fine as a good economy knife.
