Lots of good suggestions! Some knives I have never seen mentioned here are quite impressive.
Want to toss in with the Mora 2000 suggestions. I bought one of those for my BIL who is an avid camper and for the last 10 years used that knife on all his BSA campouts (many, many campouts on the way to being an Eagle Scout), cookouts, and as a utility knife. It is a great knife, and he still loves it as it is a great camp/bushcraft knife. Even after 10 years it is in great shape and solid as when it was new.
