Hey guys, I was wanting a cheap (< $100, preferably around $60) fighting knife. I don't care for any added utility, I really only want a knife optimised for fighting. A combat knife would do, a hunting knife probably wouldn't, and a survival one definitely wouldn't. Some light Googling told me that Ka-Bar knives were pretty good, and some more Googling found me Cutlery Shoppe, which ship internationally (I'm in Australia, heard bad things about KnifeCenter). I was looking at this knife:

I really have no idea about knives, but from a very brief period of research it seemed good. Can anyone confirm my selection, or offer a better one for my purposes? Thank you. Also, I need it to come with a sheath, preferably leather. Thank you!

What kind of "fighting" are you planning on doing with it? This sounds suspiciously like something that should be stated in as much detail as possible. illegal acts with a knife will not be discussed here. Like they say, it's not the tools that make the man, rather than man that can use whatever tool he has.

That is a "combat / utility" knife. It was designed after a Marble's camp knife. Combat as in combat zone, not so much hand-to-hand combat.

Knives for fighting are a delusion. It can be done but you need to bring your own doctor with you.

If the sole function of the knife would be for combat--a situation where one's life is at imminent risk--why would "cheap" be in the criteria? I'd want the best tool to help me live. Then I'd figure out how to pay for it.

Then again, I'd never use a knife I knew my life was in danger.

I plan on using it for protection, and not doing anything illegal with it.

What do you mean by "combat zone"?

There are no real world fighting knives. If you want to shank somebody then pretty much anything will do. If you are silly enough to want to have a duel then one of you will end up dead and the other will end up in intensive care. It is just not the best tool for self-defense, although it can certainly be pressed into service, as can just about anything else.

If you want a self defense knife, buy a Spyderco Matriarch or a Civilian, for the love of freedom get some training on how to use it.

Thats a laudable goal, and I carry a gun for the same reason. This is not really on topic, but you may want to seriously consider incorporating avoidance, de-escalation and running like a scalded cat into your self-protection protocol. Each greatly reduces the chance that you will see your own entrails spill onto the sidewalk.

What do I mean by "combat zone"? A war zone, an area where fighting is gong on, where troops use guns, bombs, tanks, aircraft to fight. Knives are for opening crates, slaughtering goats, fileting fish.

A good knife for self-defense could be a folder with a 4" blade, concealable but easily deployed.

This knife came to mind. It is the reason I bought it.

Please don't be a mall ninja.

The only thing that will happen if you engage in a so called knife fight with will be either you taking a very long trip to the booty house or taking a painful and bloody trip to the emergency room.

All joking aside, I'm pretty sure something in Cold Steel's lineup would fit your needs and budget! :)
