I'm looking for a good cheap fixed blade for general camping. 4-7" blade length. Something along the lines of moras, $20-30 or less. Any suggestions?

Another possibility...I don't know if it's still available, but Beretta used to make a Loveless model that you could pick up for about $35.00.

Really nice knife made in Seki, Japan by Moki.

I agree. I would consider the Buck a better all around knife than the Mora.

I dunno man.

Buck uses uses lower end stainless steel. I'm not saying it's bad by any means, people have used buck's since forever and they do the job fine.

However mora's usually come in a nice carbon steel, not to mention they have a pretty sweet grind on them too.

Why not a 4"-7" Mora? They're in the price range, come with excellent profiles, and good steel.

How 'bout a Cold Steel Bushman. Simple and tough.

The Buck 119 is handsome much. I don't like the guard. I ground the top portion off. But the steel and grind are decent enough.

Condor Rodan. Best $20 you'll ever spend. Trust me.:thumbup:

Since the Mora is what you're using for a reference point, why not get one?

I also like the fixed blades from AG Russell with the locking sheathes; the Bird and Trout starts at $30. The Woodswalker would make a great knife for camping and costs only $20.

Opinel also has a neat little fixed blade paring knife, perfect for campsite cooking. You might have to make a sheath or pouch for it though. A set of two costs $9.

Hey, Fortytwoblades, give me some feedback on the Condor Rodan, I have checked out another thread about it, but want your opinion how it works. Did you convex the blade?

Rough rider makes two good hunting knives, one is a Loveless style drop point the other a bigger hunter, both work well. about 15 bucks each and worth every penny.

Regards

Robin

It comes with a full flat grind and a scary-sharp thin convex already on it. And a leather sheath. The tang is full and the polypropylene handle is injection molded directly to the tang. I gave the work just a little work out of the box, and it cuts JUST as well as my Moras, and it's a hell of a lot tougher. No fear of batoning or prying with this one! You can also do light chopping with it.

Best knife I have EVER gotten for my money.:thumbup:

Thanks, 42, I was eying them at SMKW and a few other places. Looks like a good bargain for a quality knife.

Thanks for all your suggestions. The reason I don't want moras is because I already own 3. I'm looking for something a little different. I've seen the Buck 119 at walmart and I do plan on getting one sometime in the future. I forgot all about the Bushman and the Condor Rodan is looking very good to me.

I have had good luck with the Glock field knife. Its very lightweight and takes a good edge. Also holds up well to all sorts of field chores. Not a great chopper but works well on saplings up to 1 1/2 inches. Plastic sheath. Comes with or without a saw back. Black or tan. About $32.00 bucks.
